That it's warm for November?

Adatewithmyself · 03/11/2024 18:35

Just that really. In the South East it's still hovering around 14-16 degrees. Supposed to be 18 degrees next Monday.

Usually it's really cold on bonfire night weekend, with a need for hats etc, nothing like that at the moment.

Are we just having an unseasonably warm spell?

Yup. Not even had my heating on yet. Am wearing a jumper today though.

About time the bullshit climate crisis paid dividends.

Warmer weather means less use of heat and lower heating bills - especially for those who have limited incomes or live hand-to-mouth each month.

Climate crisis my arse.

Been happening since day one and will continue long after humanity vanishes.

I don't think the people of Catalonia are thanking their lucky stars for their dividends right now.

And humanity will vanish sooner than you think if plants, and insects are unable to evolve quickly enough to adapt to a changing climate. Not enough pollinators at the right time - no crops. No crops - global famine.

"This. If it helps, this will be the coldest November we'll ever have from this point on."

Really quite scary when you put it like this @HarkALark but I've no doubt it's true apart from anomalies.

Doesn't it depend on other factors?

ie the gulf stream changing, not that I want that to happen, at all.

My adult child and I were talking about this yesterday. Up until yesterday, they were still picking tomatoes from their vines in their green house. in November 🤔.

Of course it's global warming.

OrsolaRosso · 03/11/2024 20:10

I'm waiting for a cold snap to come along and kill off all the bloody mozzies which have been feasting on me night after night!

Warmer weather can also mean total crop failures which will lead to increased food prices and unavailability. Sounds great

I’m in London, some of my hydrangeas and cosmos are still in flower, that’s very unusual for my garden! I think it’s quite mild, I want to wear my big fluffy jumpers but it’s just too warm. I seem to remember saying this every winter since about 2018 though? February is usually the only month I find properly cold.

Yes, this. Also in the SE and my DC have been in the sea in October for the past couple of years!

And there has been a distinct lack of frosts... I can't remember when we last had a year with more than one or two frosty mornings. As a kid, it felt like most winter mornings were frosty.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 03/11/2024 20:17

I don't know why everybody is moaning. at you for moaning about the weather.......you weren't moaning just making an observation. And yes I agree,'we are in Yorkshire it's about 10-11 here most days. I can tell it's warmer as I have Raynauds. My symptoms of white tingling fingers with no feeling and chilblains and extremely swollen and painful toes, normally start about mid October. I've only had a couple of short periods of white fingers and my toes still look relatively normal too. We went to an organised bonfire and fireworks last night with coats, hats and gloves and we were all far too warm (and that suits me). It means we can still get out at the weekends too for family walks and bike rides, which is what we enjoy. And when it's too cold no amount of socks and thermals will make my toes less painful so I have to stop when it gets too cold which makes me very sad. I am one of those people literally counting down to spring.

October and early November has been a lot warmer in recent years. Twenty years ago, dressed my dc in hats and gloves for bonfire night. The last couple of years, hardly needed gloves all winter.

Must admit, prefer mild winters to snow and ice.

Yes, Bonfire Night was absolutely freezing as a child!

stargazerlil · 03/11/2024 20:26

Yes and It’s about time this country got its head around windows that can take U.S style air conditioning units. It’s too hot up here, what with the hot flashes and the rising temps.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 03/11/2024 18:38

Also SE, hasn't been cold at this time of year for a few years. I've got photos of my kids trick or treating with no coats on.

PITA, washing won't dry outside, to warm to out heating on, towels don't dry etc. we have a dryer but most of our stuff isn't tumble dryer proof.

My dehumidifier is paying for itself! Hung on the airer at 6pm, practically dry by morning, just put in the the dryer for 20 mins to make sure at 7am 😄

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 03/11/2024 20:40

It feels like 75% of our wether is between 8 and 18c and grey/ cloud which clears living in northern England im used to the cold but haven't felt it for years

IceCreamCookies · 03/11/2024 20:53

I haven't even put my heating on yet, I'm not complaining though as I hate the cold mornings.

Yes and no. If the Gulf Stream stays as is then it will just get wetter and warmer. I heard the Gulf Stream is changing on LBC this week but they called it the jet stream (unless that is something different but I don’t think so?) and they said it waving so not hitting all the same areas and that it may flip which I think they said will make us colder.

all places are the same. My Romanian friends say it’s gone from 4 seasons to 2 and 45 in summer to quite warm in winter.

MugPlate · 03/11/2024 21:10

Floods in many countries this month. Warmer air holds more moisture.

Feel sorry for farmers having to deal with these rapid changes.

"Can" being the operative word.

Wake us up when it happens.

@nomorehocuspocus

Yes, its very bad whats happened is Spain, no doubt. But many people only give a fuck because its a tourist country and near to the UK.

How many people give a fuck about floods or landslides in Latin America, or perhaps the 2022 floods in Pakistan?

Literally, cry me a river.

Reality is many people give exactly zero shits about anyone else. So if a warmer November here in the UK results in people saving money on their bills etc, then thats a good thing.

@Clearinguptheclutter Yeh because prices of food in the UK is oh so cheap at the moment....🙄🤦‍♂️

Comedycook · 04/11/2024 07:26

Climate change used to be called global warming. I genuinely think a lot of people in Britain don't care because they think it will mean the UK will get hotter and that would be a good thing.

Was talking to the farmer dropping the horses hay today and we were talking about how the seasons are slipping and don't seem so defined. Just feels like it's warm and wet all year round. We were sweating after walking to the fireworks display last night, I have memories of being absoliutley bloody freezing. I'm in the midlands and I don't think my children will ever experience a proper snow fall again :(

Why did you have children if you're so worried about climate change? 🤦‍♀️

DieStrassensindimmernass · 04/11/2024 07:46

It's not particularly pleasant weather at the other end of the country!

Because I live in the climate too, and don't get any pleasure from other people's kids suffering in extreme weather events or global starvation.

You might do things that are just as bad for the climate though, in other ways.

Of course, but I haven't produced another generation in case the climate predictions are correct. Why would I bring someone into the world when they're predicted to have such a terrible life and death?

MollieMoo1212 · 04/11/2024 07:55

Yes warm, dry but no sunshine. Due to stay the same for the next few weeks here.

Nice not having to put the heating on but it is worrying, The weather has taken a definite shift the last few years and feels like the climate crisis is worsening pretty fast

Hopefully there will be a big dumping of snow soon to prove me wrong!
