That it's warm for November?

Adatewithmyself · 03/11/2024 18:35

Just that really. In the South East it's still hovering around 14-16 degrees. Supposed to be 18 degrees next Monday.

Usually it's really cold on bonfire night weekend, with a need for hats etc, nothing like that at the moment.

Are we just having an unseasonably warm spell?

I’m no denier of climate change, but the Hallowe’en/ Bonfire Night is always mild IME. I remember going trick or treating about 37 years ago wearing just a leotard!
I was thinking today how raw and biting the wind is actually. I’d say it was colder than usual with the wind chill.

Where I remember wearing all the clothes for bonfire night and still freezing.

About time the bullshit climate crisis paid dividends.

Warmer weather means less use of heat and lower heating bills - especially for those who have limited incomes or live hand-to-mouth each month.

Climate crisis my arse.

Been happening since day one and will continue long after humanity vanishes.

Didn't take long for the deniers to crawl out did it

I said it was bullshit. I didnt "deny" it.

Re-read the last sentence in that post.

Absolutely agree, 40 years ago it was always freezing, it's forecast to be 18 degrees this Nov 5th 😞

You are being obtuse. It's beyond doubt that human activity has accelerated climate change enormously since the industrial revolution.

Frowningprovidence · 03/11/2024 19:06

It is mild. I have in my head this means wet spring.

I still dont see where my post said anything, one way or the other, that human activity was or was not at fault.

And you call me obtuse?

Nice.

Three years ago i bought a puffa coat in bright pink. Havent worn it yet The winters havent been cold enough apart from one week of snow we had back in December 2022

No, it wasn't. It's my birthday and it's often relatively mild, and always was.

February is the coldest month, and the temps drop through Dec and Jan to then.

Onlythistime · 03/11/2024 18:39

Seriously? It's the climate crisis, you must surely realize this?

This Sad

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/11/2024 19:12

Interesting thread title. Was this originally in AIBU and been moved?

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 03/11/2024 19:12

Very much so. As a child I remember having to wrap up really warm for Guy Fawkes night. But, yes, climate change.

Dappy777 · 03/11/2024 19:13

It's kind of frightening tbh. When I was a kid (in the 1980s), I remember being freezing on 'Bonfire Night' (as we used to call it). I remember wearing thick duffel coats and being able to see my breath. I even remember being so cold I wanted to go indoors. Right now it's mild enough to sleep outside in a T shirt.😯

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 03/11/2024 19:13

Very warm to me too. I've been going in leggings and t-shirt or jumper at the most.

Adatewithmyself · 03/11/2024 19:14

Maybe I was thinking it's 10 degrees warmer than it should be—should be 8 but its 18—I've only moved back to the UK fairly recently from somewhere much colder but maybe the UK has been mild for a while now.

Seasons have slipped a bit. Worst weather now Jan/feb but sometimes I think it is also due to childhood memories of how it was.

usernother · 03/11/2024 19:15

The highest November temperature in England was 21 degrees in 1938.

JMSA · 03/11/2024 19:15

I'm in Scotland and could easily get away with not having my heating on.
Worrying.

Beezknees · 03/11/2024 19:16

Seems milder than last year. My heating hasn't come on yet, it's set to come on when the indoor temperature drops below 16.

Lostinbrum · 03/11/2024 19:18

Was talking to the farmer dropping the horses hay today and we were talking about how the seasons are slipping and don't seem so defined. Just feels like it's warm and wet all year round. We were sweating after walking to the fireworks display last night, I have memories of being absoliutley bloody freezing. I'm in the midlands and I don't think my children will ever experience a proper snow fall again :(

Surgicalprecison · 03/11/2024 19:28

Yanbu I was walking round in shirt sleeves today and I've yet to put my heating on.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/11/2024 19:39

Yes, it is warmish. As an aside, I do remember my Dad working out in the garden in November and saying "this is crazy Lindor, it's November and I've got my shirt off because it's so warm!". I was taking tea and toast out to him. And this was before 1974 as he left us in 1974.

AnyFucker · 03/11/2024 19:46

This is the mildest Bonfire Night weekend I can remember

You called the crisis bullshit and “my arse” suggesting that you either deny it happening or don’t believe it to be termed a ‘crisis’, which is pretty similar to denying it.
You also said, “been happening since day one and will continue long after humanity vanishes”. Which gives an implication that you don’t believe humanity to be at fault.
But I think you know all this and are boringly looking for an argument 😂
