Son stepped in dog mess. Have scrubbed and scrubbed with old toothbrush and soapy water, have sprayed with enzyme spray after, it still smells! Please help me, don't want to throw out new trainers!

If there's no visible shit, I would scrub with the pink stuff as it's abrasive and could get rid of invisible lingering stuff.

It's quite strange they still smell. Are you sure there's no more shit on other parts of the shoe?

Leave it outside to air out

Stand it in a tray of something - lemon juice or vinegar

And don’t smell soles of shoes

Bleach and then washing machine.
Stand in a shallow tray of bleach, not the whole shoe!

I'd soak the soles in Napisan overnight.

I was told by my mum (so may not be scientific!) that you have to treat dog poo like you would if you wanted to wash off a lot fat/cooking oil. You need very hot water and a lot of washing up liquid. Soak in neat washing up liquid first. Something to do with poo being very fatty? It's usually worked for me, except on fox poo which seems to take days to not smell anymore....

Good luck! Grim stuff.

Try soaking soles in strong soap powder solution overnight. Fill bucket just deep enough for soles to sit in

MoreNotLess · 03/11/2024 14:03

Are they machine washable?

WYorkshireRose · 03/11/2024 14:35

I'd accept that if they can't be cleaned they'd be going in the bin anyway, so probably worth bunging them in the washing machine and seeing if that does it 🤷‍♀️
