Advice for painting a ceiling

Just that really. I've done walls and woodwork before but haven't tackled any of the ceilings. Thing is I don't have a ladder. Can I manage with a chair. Should I buy an extension for the roller and roll the ceiling? Landlord has allowed me 50 pound to paint 3 ceilings . Have to try and stretch it . Think it's a bit mean actually considering I'm doing the work myself but hey ho. The landlord got a quote about a year or more ago but never got round to doing it. All 3 ceilings have water damage from leaks and/or mould which is why I said I would do it as I hate living like this. Anyway pls send advice!

We used an extension pole. It was pretty straightforward to do. Good luck!

Extension for a roller and cover the floor well to protect from drips. I hope the source of the damp damage has been fixed before painting!

You can get ceiling paint rollers. Wear a hat and old clothes.

If you have mould or water stains you will need stain block as well as paint as it won't cover otherwise and you are wasting money. Why is the landlord not doing this ?

I used a sturdy table in the middle of our kitchen and bench hopped also! Used a standard roller and brush for hej edges. Our ddogs love when I am busy. I had added bonus of 16 paws under foot.... I actually love painting a ceiling!!

Cut in first (do the edges) with a brush

pp is right about water damage/staining. You can’t simply paint over them as they just come through the new paint. Use stain blocker (Zinnser are best but not cheap) before painting.

Matt emulsion is more forgiving of surface than silk.

Extension pole is handy but not essential.

Because they are awful. Took about 4 months for them to even come back to me me when I said I would do it myself if they paid for the paint. I estimated 100 pound for 4 ceilings including rollers and Zinsser maybe it would have been less. They said max 50 pound. And this is through an agency. I keep asking agency why landlord doesn't respond but they just say they will chase them. They do 6 monthly inspections but nothing gets done. Rent goes up of course !!
