Is there a cold going around presenting like this?

So about 2 weeks ago I was around someone with a cold (no judgement from me) and she did tell me it was very mild.

So about last week I think I experienced some symptoms of a cold. It was so mild and it was over and done with in a day or two. Quickest cold ever for me. I was so happy because I don't tolerate sickness well even a head cold.

I woke up on Thursday morning with a vicious sore throat. Also now I have a head cold. Headache, earache, nasal drip. Still have the sore throat. It definitely doesn't feel like covid. I don't have a fever. I do have some body aches and pains but I am putting that down to some long work days and a never ending work schedule for the past month and exhaustion and burn out from work.

Is there a cold going around like this? Starts off mild, clears up and then comes back again. I am dreading this not knowing if I will get worse and not knowing how long this will last for. I had a cold in the spring that last two fucking months. I just don't need this right now.

I had covid in August. I surely can't have it again, can I.

Yes I aware that covid can present like this where it's on and off with symptoms. One minute you are fine and the next you're down again.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

It doesn't really feel like covid for me. I had covid and both times I had stubborn fevers. I refuse to believe this is covid.

If only there was a reliable test or “vaccination” lmfao or big pockets to be lined somewhere. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I didn't have a fever. Just like a heavy cold, sore throat, and overwhelming fatigue. I was really surprised when I tested positive! Feeling a bit better now thanks - still exhausted but ok apart from that. Hope you feel better soon too.

We've all had something like this for over a week now. I am shattered! Tested negative for Covid, but the only time I've ever felt remotely similar was when I had it so who knows? 🤦‍♀️ We've just been trying to push through because we've had so many commitments. We both had A/L last week but DH is now feeling shaky so called in sick, and I worked the morning but called off for the rest of the afternoon. Thankfully both WFH so no travel.

It's like it comes in waves and as soon as you think it's gone, it's back!

Ezekiela · 04/11/2024 14:46

I hope not, because I had a really mild cold last week and I don't want to think that a bad one is about to hit.

ARichtGoodDram · 04/11/2024 14:47

Sounds like Covid.

Tests aren't even particularly reliable atm. We test because DD4 is very vulnerable. 5 with exactly the same symptoms, but 3 tested positive and 2 negative.

DD was still testing negative on hospital admission, but later tested positive as well.

Unfortunately yes you can have Covid now if you’ve had it this summer.
Esp as it’s not the same variant.

I got that ‘cold’. I’m pretty sure it was Covid. (Thanks to my ds on that one who didn’t think it was worth warning me)
I didnt have any fever with it but I still haven’t fully recovered 5 weeks in.

Sorry, but I've had Covid twice since September, so it's very possible.

Currently have the head cold going around too, which isn't Covid. All awful though!

Laptoppie · 04/11/2024 19:34

Yes there's a horrible one that seems to present like this, covid or not it's grim!

Oh my god!

Did you have covid twice since September?

Can I ask something please? How were your covid infections?

I had covid in August and I was ill. I can't imagine what it would be like to get it twice so close together.

I did a covid test last night but it was negetavive.

Yes I have had a nasty virus like this which still isn't going away after a month- extremely sore throat, chesty cough which won't go way, pressure on chest, very painful ears which turned into a double ear infection, and just feeling really exhausted. I was convinced it was Covid, but tests were negative. I got it after going to a work conference and having to sit in a room with a clearly ill person, who kept telling everyone how ill they were feeling.

butterfly0404 · 04/11/2024 22:29

My DP had exactly this last week, his throat was so inflamed he thought it was closing up and mucus was just pouring from his nose, it was horrible.

I've now got it, no sore throat but breathing is wheezy, (I'm asthmatic so not a shock) and generally feel yuk.

Not tested for Covid, it's a virus and it will pass but staying away from people until I feel better.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/11/2024 00:15

DC has it. Probably.

StickyStones · 05/11/2024 01:48

That's exactly how covid was for me: excruciating headache for a few days and really tired, then fine for a few and then bam! Sore throat, really runny nose, croaky and a bit of a cough. Felt awful. Start to finish it was about 1.5-2 weeks, I'm just over it now.

DottyDodger · 05/11/2024 23:35

Sorry OP, I missed your question.

My first round of it lasted weeks, I think? Was mostly in the form of a tummy bug. Nausea, cramps and some diarrhea which kept coming and going - all of the family had a bit of it. After a couple of weeks of that, it hit me like a bat, 1 week in bed, aching head to toe, headache and out of action. Tested positive during the bad week, it tummy symptoms persisted.

I was ok for about 3 weeks, then had a sudden illness start in the night. Symptoms were more severe than in Sept, with severe muscle pain, temperature, lethargy, headache.

Day 3-4 head cold started, which then went quite quickly. Was poorly in bed flat out for 3 weeks. Other symptoms included loss of taste and chest tightness. All symptoms I've had before with Covid (I've had it around 7-8 times in total). Only thought to test when DH got some symptoms and tested positive. He was also poorly and in bed for a week - which never happens.

Felt ok for a few days, then we both caught heavy colds which we still have 2 weeks later. Been a crazy couple of months, and I've watched absolutely EVERYTHING on Netflix Confused
