Can a stolen iPhone be traced?

Hi all, my daughter was out in Manchester last night and her iPhone was missing when she went to use it at the end of the night. It was probably stolen as we tried calling it but it's switched off. I've left a message on the club answer phone just in case it was handed in. She's got adhd, has just started uni in Scotland and returns there today. We're going to Carphonr warehouse to get a sim for an old phone as she obviously needs one. Oh and the kicker is we only insured it for accidental damage (I know 🙄). Silly thread I know but does anyone have any advice? She's sobbing her heart out as she was scared to tell us as she begged for us to go halves on an iPhone and promised she'd take extra good care because she is notorious for breaking her phones. (Again I know 🙄🙄) I feel like shaking her 🫣

You should be able to lock it down, so when it's turned in it's useless.

You can track it with find my phone. And block it.

Do you have bank or home insurance that would cover the phone?

If she find my iPhone turned on in the handset she should be able to trace it.

Oh I know. I'm just frustrated. I haven't slept since yesterday so im very tired. I've not had a go at her but she loses everything like her keys/bus pass/bank card/bags on the regular so it just feels typical of her. (I know this is unreasonable and I'm hoping she dropped it and it's been handed in somewhere as it also has her provisional licence in the card slot on the case).

All we're getting on her laptop is the loading icon. She said it was set up but isn't quite certain.

Dh is taking her to Carphone Warehouse to get a sim so he's going to ask if they have a way to find it.
