Waiting for new one to be installed but feel completely limited with what can cook/eat, trying to meal plan for the week.
I have a microwave and an air fryer.

Can you stretch to buying a camping gas stove or a plug in single induction hob?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/11/2024 08:52

We ate a lot more cous cous when we were having our kitchen redone than we'd ever do normally (presumably you have a kettle?)

Can you stretch to buying a camping gas stove or a plug in single induction hob?

Or a slow cooker?

Get an Ikea or similar single induction hob.

It doesn't take up much space so you can store it easily when you don't need it anymore and just pull it out when another ring would come in handy (or sell it).

GrumpyPanda · 02/11/2024 08:59

Have a look at microwave recipes, there's always been a surprising amount you can do with it.

Everythingaches · 02/11/2024 09:33

Thank you, forgot to say we do have a slow cooker.
how can I cook pasta for example?
single camping hob is a good idea.

When I first moved into house the oven/hob wasn’t working for months, I used to buy the very thin pasta and put it in the slow cooker with sauce etc for an hour or so, I think it might have even been quicker tbh which got me my pasta hit!

No oven or hob!
LikeABat · 02/11/2024 10:09

Pretty sure you can cook pasta in a microwave. Plug in hob a good idea though.

ihaterain2024 · 02/11/2024 10:29

You can definitely cook pasta in a microwave or 'baked potato ' .
Microwave rice pouches plus veg plus deli meats or shop bought cooked/ roast chicken

MumonabikeE5 · 02/11/2024 10:31

The Ikea induction hob. So useful.
better than a camping stove.

Doggymummar · 02/11/2024 10:33

I only have a ninja and a toaster. All the time. Plus an electric wok and a deepfat fryer. I use the BbC good food site for inspiration

Blanketsarethebest · 02/11/2024 10:33

You can cook pasta in the slow cooker! Maybe not your usual recipes but I use a couple from 'bored of lunch' on insta where you add pasta towards the end. Lots of air fryer recipes too.

AutumnLeaves24 · 02/11/2024 10:34

when will the new oven/hob be installed?

What can't you cook that you want to?

airfryer
microwave
slow cooker

???

Not sustainable longer term but for one week:
Sunday: slow cooker joint, roast potatoes and carrots done in the air fryer, greens in the microwave.
Monday: hot chicken wraps with microwave skinny fries ( use leftover chicken from Sunday or do chicken goujons in the air fryer.
Tuesday: meatball stew ( swedish meatballs, sliced onions, tinned tomatoes, grated carrot, harissa) in the slow cooker served with couscous
Wednesday: pasta with a stir in sauce and defrosted prawns stirred through. Garlic dough balls done in the air fryer.
Thursday: air fryer fish and chips with microwave mushy peas.
Friday: roasted Mediterranean veg (air fryer) with feta and flatbreads.
Saturday: takeaway.

Nannyfannybanny · 02/11/2024 10:37

My son's use a microwave and air fryer and cook everything. That's all you need, getting camping Gaz is incredibly dangerous, unless you use it right next door to an open window, countless people have died of carbon monoxide poisoning using them in tents or caravans without adequate ventilation

sanityisamyth · 02/11/2024 10:42

Just use the air fryer. There's nothing you can't cook in there that you can do in an oven!

AdaColeman · 02/11/2024 10:52

Orzo is another type of pasta that you can cook with sauce in the slow cooker, also you can cook gnocchi in the air fryer, just toss them in a very little oil before cooking.

Singleandproud · 02/11/2024 10:58

Pasta can be done in a microwave.
Kettle can be used for noodles or couscous.
I'd look at getting a rice cooker though, I use mine all the time it's handy for rice, pasta, couscous but also veg. So great if using a slow cooker for the main meal I just chuck the veg in when the carb is almost cooked and it steams it.

Hyperbowl · 02/11/2024 10:58

I have just realised someone already posted the same thing I did but I second searching for Bored of Lunch slow cooker recipes. He makes all sorts on there and we have some of them every week religiously for tea.

Everythingaches · 02/11/2024 11:07

Thank you so much! Not sure when we will get oven sorted
