Help me! What’s the yellow song my toddler wants

I have a nearly 2 year old who has just sussed out Alexa plays whatever he wants on command.
He knows he can say Alexa play… and the song will come on. We’re normally just doing nursery rhymes although I will throw in the occasional 5ive or Busted classic 😁

Anyway, he keeps saying Alexa play yellow (or in his precise words “Exa play yeyyow”).

I have NO IDEA what song “yellow” is! And this child is very very persistent in his desire to listen to it.

I’ve tried the rainbow song but doesn’t seem to be it and pretty sure he’s not a Coldplay fan. It’s got to be something he’s heard at nursery. Help!!

There is one possible alternative explanation. He’s just getting to grips with colours and yellow does seem to be his favourite so he’s possibly just getting a bit mixed up and doesn’t understand Alexa can’t play colours. He does ask for other songs though like wheels on the bus though so I think he does get it.

so that was a very long post to ask for suggestions of kids songs to try and get Alexa to play that might be yellow.

Yellow Submarine.

Yellow Submarine

by the Beatles.

Forksup · 02/11/2024 07:00

If it’s not Yellow Submarine, maybe mellow yellow?

Yellows Song - colour blocks?

Do nursery ever put any TV on? I wonder whether there are any songs with yellow backgrounds or characters...

legalalien · 02/11/2024 07:04

From a quick google there’s a popular nursery poem called”yellow yellow everywhere” set to various tunes on YouTube…

RevelryMum · 02/11/2024 07:05

Hardly Coldplay , yellow ? Would he have heard it on the radio ? I've never had an Alexa so clueless but can you check what was previously played and go through it with him maybe someone played something a few days back that he liked ?

MaroonyBalloony · 02/11/2024 07:05

Can't help you but we recently, after a lot of confusion, sussed our 2 year old uses the word yellow to mean other! So if he said yellow song he'd mean he wanted a different song. Also yellow milk, yellow swing etc. just means the other one/type.
Probably not helpful

Rokuandice · 02/11/2024 07:05

Definitely not a mispronunciation? I remember my DD as a toddler, inconsolable that everything I was presenting her wasn’t ‘purple’ .. she wanted an apple 😆🥰

No telly, but they play a lot of songs and do a lot of dancing. I keep meaning to ask them but just always forget in the midst of drop off/pick up.

Tried yellow submarine and it's not that. He just looked confused when we started singing along with it 😂

@RevelryMum It's not Coldplay. That played when I first just said Alexa play yellow.

@Rokuandice pretty sure it's not mispronouncing it but will see if I can offer some alternatives next time. I did try that initially as I couldn't think of a yellow song.

@Tooffless sadly it wasn't the yellow colour blocks song. Had to play on youtube as Alexa doesn't understand what I'm asking for but he wasn't interested.
It did however give me an excuse to play the blue colour blocks song, which is an absolute belter! 😃

@legalalien Not heard that one before so I'll give that a try next time he's asking for it.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

🎼 🎶 🎶 Yellow bird up high in banana tree....

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/11/2024 10:42

Row Row Row your Boat? When I was little I apparently used to say 'lellowy' instead of 'merrily' so I thought of it when I read your title.

Edited to add - The Orange colour blocks song is brilliant and now I have it in my head 😂

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/11/2024 10:44

Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the old oak tree?
Mellow Yellow?

BarnacleBeasley · 04/11/2024 11:11

You'll just have to ask nursery. One time I had to go in and say 'which song is this?' and pedaly arms around furiously while stomping. It was 'here comes the big red bus', and the nursery staff recognised it instantly.

bakewellbride · 04/11/2024 11:16

Is it that annoying 'rainy bow' song from bing?

Balloonhearts · 04/11/2024 11:18

If she listens to Busted and similar maybe it's 5 Colours in her Hair by Mcfly. If you run the words together some parts could sound a bit like yellow.

TheSandgroper · 04/11/2024 11:20

Yellow River?

My son is 25 but when he was 2 he also did that!

”Lellow” was his word for another - “car, bus, lellow car…” I kept correcting him, “No, love, that’s a blue car, not a yellow one.”

Cat, lellow cat, baby, lellow baby… eventually the penny dropped that it was “another” not yellow.

I wonder what the origin was for them?

Normaja · 04/11/2024 12:57

@SnapdragonToadflax Not row row, he definitely knows how to demand we play that one. Over and over and over and over and... you get the drift.

@bakewellbride I had wondered that, I'm reluctant to try it though. Even just reading the words has got that bloody song stuck in my head and it somehow manages to stay stuck for days!

I'll try a few of the other suggestions. I'm confident he's not mixing up yellow with any other words (other than colours). I've only ever seen him say yellow in the right context, although it has just occurred to me he often says yellow when he means red or green, etc (he does know the right colours, he'll tell you the right one if you ask again, I honestly just think he likes saying yellow). I've just opened another can of worms for myself. We'll now be going through every childs song that mentions any colour that ever existed.

@BarnacleBeasley that's brilliant.
My class had to sing a scots song at assembly so we were practising a lot in class but my pupils were old enough to know how to ask at home for it. At parents night I was complimenting a wee girl about her participation and her dad rolled his eyes and went "Aye, that bloody broon coo. Thanks for that ...." seemingly by the assembly her whole family knew all the words and actions!

GameOfJones · 04/11/2024 13:10

He's not thinking of EIEIO from the Old MacDonald nursery rhyme is he?

Isitfridayyetsophie · 04/11/2024 13:11

Is it an Alexa with a screen and do you regularly play a song with a yellow icon? We always have nursery rhymes on our Alexa and before my son mastered the names of the songs he’d refer to whatever song artwork showed on the screen? I know that doesn’t narrow it down but thought it might give you an idea!

This cracked me up, bet you made the nursery staff’s day

Coldplay?
