Has anyone seen any kids with a Guy Fawkes this year?

No, not round here

CrispyCrumpets · 01/11/2024 19:18

Not seen any in donkeys years!

XenoBitch · 01/11/2024 19:18

I have not seen one for about 20 years.

corlan · 01/11/2024 19:18

Not for years and years

SpoonHeader · 01/11/2024 19:19

Has anyone under 40 ever seen this?

CrispyCrumpets · 01/11/2024 19:21

Maybe people are a bit uncomfortable these daya with the idea of making an effigy of a Catholic man and throwing it on a bonfire? Just musing. No idea really!

I have not seen a proper bonfire in years too... the sort where all the locals used to congregate and chuck pallets etc on.

Not seen for years. Decades even.

JoJothegerbil · 01/11/2024 19:26

We were just talking about making a guy out of your mum's old tights at work today. Not seen one in years.

Fireworks have been used alone then blended to last weeks and have a diverse meaning now.

About 3 years ago I saw a few lads sitting in Redcar on the main shopping street with one and it brought a tear to the eye.

upinaballoon · 01/11/2024 19:49

The absence of a guy shouldn't stop us from having tomato soup and hot dogs for tea on 5th, followed by bonfire toffee.

KizzyDora · 01/11/2024 19:51

The last time I saw one was about 15 years ago outside a co-op. A couple of early teen girls were running after and kicking people that refused to give money. It was a sad sight.

nomorehocuspocus · 01/11/2024 19:52

Perhaps Halloween has taken over, and people aren't so bothered about Guy Fawkes any more.

GroovyChick87 · 01/11/2024 19:53

I saw 1 the other day. I used to see it all the time as a kid but it's not really the done thing anymore.

You could argue that 5th November took over Halloween which has been reinstated. Fireworks have now been moved into a Hindu festival.

HelenInHeels · 01/11/2024 20:04

I remember going to a friend's house for fireworks and a bonfire and dancing to Saturday Night by Whigfield.
