Do caravan holidays prepare movie stars for life in trailers?

I just saw a picture of Nigella Lawson washing up in a trailer.

Presumably she will have gone to fill a bucket up from the communal tap shortly beforehand.

And this is my question - do the movie stars find it useful to have had prior experience of going on caravan holidays for the time that they will go on to spend in trailers.

How similar are the trailers to caravans?

Are there any movie stars here who can explain the differences?

PS I know that Nigella Lawson is not a movie star, but I remember Julia Roberts doing crochet in hers and that one off LA LA Land watching Labyrinth on the telly in hers.

This is one of the most random ponderings I've read on here and I love it.

I'm hoping that when I finally get my big Hollywood break (not likely, I'm a middle aged civil servant) my couple of caravan holidays will have me well prepared for dealing with life on set .

Rafting2022 · 01/11/2024 06:52

I love this thread! Imagining all the Hollywood stars drawing on their experience from being on a caravan park in Prestatyn as a child when they hit the big time.

Gprou · 01/11/2024 06:53

What caravan holidays have you been on where you have to fill up a bucket from a communal tap to wash up? I’ve never known that.

Gruffalowings · 01/11/2024 07:04

@Gprou ones where the caravan has no running water.

Just as I imagine the ones in Hollywood don’t, either.

I have been in the trailer of quite a big band after a concert. It was much nicer than any caravan/trailer I've been in. There was running water from a tank. I'm pretty certain one of the minions would have filled up the tank using a hose pipe.

Shunup · 01/11/2024 07:09

I very much imagine Hollywood trailers have running water, showers, flushable toilets like most caravans do.

Gruffalowings · 01/11/2024 07:10

The movie stars probably huddle together at the start of a movie and say,

‘Heads up! Who knows how to live in these things?’, and then the childhood caravan holiday movie stars can buddy up with the clueless ones and explain all about it.

That said, there’s probably a chemical toilet module at RADA exactly for this scenario.

What was it like? What did it have that a caravan doesn’t?

Was it as nice as the ones in Sandy Balls?

‘Heads up! Who knows how to live in these things?’
They don’t live in them.

SensibleSigma · 01/11/2024 07:15

Great advert placement- for the movie star who’s not keen on the provided decor!

Do You think that they are more diva like and demanding depending on their experience?

I mean Haven have a star system to differentiate “luxury “ caravans, whereas Butlins are far less “quality”.

I now will demand a gold standard when I make it into Hollywood as I am used to Gold standard at Prestatyn sands and Flowers of May.

I don’t want shoddiness blighting my possible glittering career.

Boobygravy · 01/11/2024 07:16

This is surely where method acting is most useful.
I'm going to act a scene where a major star has to live in a trailer whilst he films a movie.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 01/11/2024 07:17

I’ve heard that Maria Cary is a right one for being a diva, I bet she had gold standard as a kid.

Hollywood stars use Fifth Wheels when filming these are a world away from your bog standard caravan, have a Google, they are like mini apartments on wheels.
We have a caravan and regularly holiday with friends who have a fifth wheel, they are luxury on wheels. Certainly no trudging to the tap for water, the tanks hold gallons and they have regular sized toilets and showers.
I don't think celebs have anything to be worried about.

This is similar to the unit our friends have a d the kind of thing used whilst filming.

Do you think they wet the windows and put tin foil on it to keep the light out?

Iamthemoom · 01/11/2024 07:20

Movie/TV trailers have running water. There's definitely no collecting water from a communal tap! There are runners who get the actors anything they need that isn't already provided in the trailer.

Nasyan · 01/11/2024 07:23

Even with our small touring caravan you can get a pitch with its own tap so the water doesn't run out in the sinks

Only the ones in the know @TheGreatScotchEggControversy The foil in the windows is how you tell the true aficionados.

I hear Tom Cruise won’t set foot on set without his catering-size roll of tinfoil (also useful for making the aliens feel at home - nice and shiny, you see).

What’s the etiquette on bodily functions, though? Is it still the same? (ie save it for a service station).

Daniel Day-Lewis would refuse running water, surely?

I have no idea what Sandy Balls is/are 😂
It was very shiny and nice, everything was clean and new stored away in fancy cupboards. It was like being in a posh mini flat.

TheGreatScotchEggControversy · 01/11/2024 07:46

@Moonshiners you've missed a trick if you don't know about Sandy Balls!

TianasBayou · 01/11/2024 07:58

A distinction would need to be drawn between those with touring caravan experience and those with statics a la Sandy Balls.

Similarly between a modern touring caravan and ye olde worlde Sprite with a toilet tent and trek to the tap.

But aren't minions themselves 'movie stars'?

I'm sure they've been in a couple of films.
