Sorting out the freezer

I appreciate this is massively dull!
This is absolutely not a bragging post but I have just sorted out my freezer!
I always intend bottom shelf to be pre-made batched cooking, soups, leftovers etc. Middle - chicken breasts, sausages other meat stuff. Top to be veg and pastry etc. All beautifully labelled and dated.
Well the reality was not like that!
Some squid of unknown age. Sausages tucked in all sorts of places. Pots of unidentified brown stuff (assume gravy? stew? who knows). Pots of unidentified orange stuff curry sauce? carrot soup?
Please reassure me that I am not an absolute freezer minger?
Is everyone organized but me?

🤣 I organised mine this week! Lots of random brown items, unlabelled. Lots of single ones of...

You're not the only one!

I buy a roll of sticky freezer labels from Lakeland for this very reason! You always think you'll remember what something is, but a few months later invariably forget.

I do have a system of different things in different drawers. Unfortunately, DC1 (adult) has other ideas, and I'm constantly finding stuff in the 'wrong' place.

Oh I love a freezer sort out! We do now have a system but that was only after throwing away a lot of pots of “could be anything”. We now have a spreadsheet (yes we’re those people) and tick off/add as we go and update it each week.

Oh and a vac pack machine which is a dream!

I rearrange mine monthly or so , and have different drawers for different things. I keep a list of what's jn each drawer on the fridge door, and add and cross off what goes in and out. This system would work perfectly if it weren't for DP, hence needing to redo it..

Rocknrollstar · 30/10/2024 12:34

We have a list of the shelves and what should be on them but I still have to go through every so often and tidy up. Other people tend to put things wherever they can find room. Of course, I would never do that.

OP it sounds like you've been poking around in our freezers (two of, the small one under the fridge and the under counter one in the utility).

I've just had a big sort out, got rid of some real crap, like I'm never going use up the 'stock' that is leftover after roasting a chicken and sorted the rest out into 'types'. There's also a lot more room because it's in there nicely rather all tipped in together, so the drawers will actually shut.

I also found 3 pots of hoummous, unlike when I went looking before the sort out, when I couldn't find any at all, and I had to have dry falafels.

I've vowed to use up as many as possible of the mystery browns and oranges for lunches, backed up with emergency canned soup if it's really inedible.

But Lakeland labels are a step too far, masking tape works perfectly well if I could be arsed to use it.
