Ideas for a day out / 1 night break in uk with kids

Have managed to get Friday off which will be only day off with the kids (8 and 14) in half term.

we are in London but happy travel anywhere. Can anyone recommendations a nice day out or overnight stay somewhere a bit different and fun?

Places like Bath or Edinburgh would be easy with lots to do (cheap flights to Edinburgh). But you already live in a big city, so something more left field might be more fun. Glastonbury or go to seaside (Christchurch/Henigistbury Head) or Southwold. Some of these would be more/less easy depending on if you have a car.

Maybe Chessington World of adventures, you can book to stay the night in one of the onsite hotels. Or Legoland in Windsor.

Bath definitely, beautiful countryside or the cotswolds.

Or train somewhere rural like peak district

The newforest. Stay at 'spot in the woods' and go to the newforest wildlife park one day and the beach another day if it's nice weather
