Any recommendation's for good but not too spendy food places near Leicester Square.

Four OAPs descending on me. We are going to the matinee at the Noel Coward theatre. I originally booke Zendals but realise it’s too much walking one is prone to falls and I’m in the middle of my chemo cycle so not great either.

any ideas they like a curry etc and will be keeping an eye on London prices😀

I came on to say Zédel’s…

Is it mid-week or a Saturday? If a Saturday, I'd definitely chose somewhere close as it will be heaving around there and people will either know where they're going and be trying to pick the most direct route around the bumbling tourist or be a bumbling tourist which means everyone is wrapped up in their own world and not having the headspace to spot that someone is a bit frail or has a stick and needs a bit of extra room.

Pizza express is actually not a bad shout for those circumstances. If they can manage stairs, look to Corck and Bottle.

Phase2 · 29/10/2024 19:53

Where is your travel back from? I tend to go away from the theatre and nearer to where we are leaving from.

MrsMitford3 · 29/10/2024 19:56

Just to say that Brown's has a lot of stairs and tends to be very busy so might not be a chill dinner for your OAPs

We've done pre-theatre supper there for years but the service was so diabolical we will never be back

Bancone, Côte, Tandoor Chop House or Barrafina - all around the bottom of St Martin's Lane/ Chandos Place/Adelaide St.

If you are ever around Canary Wharf (actually on wood wharf) there is a branch of Mildred’s called Mallow , gorgeous food, and I am not vegan either!

Yes it’s amazing! Very expensive though!!

Bancone does very nice pasta

SleepyTraveller · 29/10/2024 20:08

Another vote for Bancone (if you're OK with pasta)

Samphire44 · 29/10/2024 20:10

The Port House is good if they don't mind tapas.

Samphire44 · 29/10/2024 20:13

Whoops got my squares mixed up, it is Trafalgar Sq not Leicester Sq.

There's the slightly old-fashioned but very lovely Cafe Koha https://cafekoha.com/ which sits in the alleyway between Noel Coward and Wyndhams Theatre - it's like a French bistro.

Bring cash though! No cards.

I always like Zedel's.

AtomicBlondeRose · 29/10/2024 20:32

We always go to Tokyo Diner. Cheap, very informal but friendly and nice food!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/10/2024 20:34

I used to go to C & R Cafe on Rupert Court for Malaysian food. But it's over a decade since I've lived in London so I don't know if it's still good.

LovingKent · 29/10/2024 20:40

Tokyo Diner (Japanese), Newport Place just at the back of Leicester Square. Does have stairs but you could ask to be seated at ground level.

Imperial China (Chinese), White Bear Yard, Lisle Street

I second Rasa Sayang, if they like curry. We tend to go about 5 pm; and can usually get in straightaway. We did go at 7 pm and had to queue for a while. You can book though. We get Nasi Lemak, which is a good sized portion and plenty of chicken curry, with the rice, etc. It’s reasonably priced, for its location in Central London!

I was treated there recently. Just off Charing Cross. I wasn't that impressed. I took my son up a few years ago to the Cursed Child for both sessions. I booked the local Spaghetti House. It was perfect. Great service. Food was plentiful and lovely. Really recommend if Italian is your thing.
