Don’t want to comment on pills as not expert but please get a little bottle of Clove oil as soon as you can and use cotton buds to get it to the bits that hurt if you can - I couldn’t BELIEVE how much this sorted me out when I needed it. Hope you’re better v soon.

What dose of ibuprofen and paracetamol have you had?

Allnewtometoo · 27/10/2024 20:11

Yes you can take up to 8 paracetamol in 24 hours.

Also, get some oragel

Paracetamol is two 4 times a day no more than eight tablets in 24 hours.

Ibuprofen 400mg up to three times daily.

So yes on Paracetamol. As long as you have been taking 200mg Ibuprofen tablets so 400mg each time you should be OK.

Clove oil or Orajel extra strength 20% one not 10% from the pharmacy can be used along side painkillers.

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 27/10/2024 20:13

Surely it depends on the strength of the paracetamol? Here in Spain i can buy 1g paracetamol so that would only be three in 24 hours.

DeathMetalMum · 27/10/2024 20:14

The paracetamol dosing is for 500mg tablets.

scoobiedoozie · 27/10/2024 20:15

If you're taking 400mg ibuprofen each time, you need to leave longer between doses. At least 6 hours.

Paracetamol dose is 2 x (500mg) every 4-6 hours (maximum 8 in 24 hours)

Ibuprofen take without after food The usual dose for adults is one or two 200mg tablets or capsules 3 times a day. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe a higher dose of up to 600mg to take 4 times a day if needed. This should only happen under supervision of a doctor

Can you get hold of some cocodamol? I find it works much better than ibuprofen or paracetamol when I get severe back pain (it contains paracetamol so don't take any extra with it)

JoMaloneCandles · 27/10/2024 20:18

Put some cloves into some boiling water, once it cools down, remove cloves (water will look a little golden from the cloves) drink that water and swish around the tooth/area.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/10/2024 20:18

Clove oil burns, it doesn't help.

To get through the night without doing your stomach a mischief, it's six hours between ibuprofen, not 4, so leave them until midnight.

CornishTeaTime · 27/10/2024 20:19

UPDATE
Paracetomol is 500mg
Ibuprofen is 200mg

Ive got oragel and bonjela!

Hoping to get into the dentist tomorrow

I've just discovered they do ibuprofen and codeine tablets!

I prefer these over solphredine max.

I just take normal run of the mill paracetamols.

I would think it'll work for toothache.

I take them for cluster headaches and no medication cures the pain of them but these numb them to bare able!

LapinR0se · 27/10/2024 20:22

Here’s a good schedule for tomorrow
8am 2 x paracetamol
11am 2 x ibuprofen
2pm 2 x paracetamol
5pm 2 x ibuprofen
bedtime 2 x paracetamol
ibuprofen if you wake with pain in the night.

This isn't the best schedule. Ibuprofen shouldn't be taken on an empty stomach so wouldn't be a good idea to take in the middle of the night.

It would be better to start with Ibuprofen after breakfast and leave a dose of paracetamol for just in case overnight.

LapinR0se · 28/10/2024 07:57

I always eat a biscuit with ibuprofen! But yes could switch them round if necessary

CornishTeaTime · 28/10/2024 08:44

I was in agony with toothache last week and the ibuprofen with codeine were the only thing that helped.

Ive been to the dentist and have a tooth infection, tooth will need removing once the infection has gone, but those painkillers really made a difference!
