Why do American programs have such annoying hosts?

I started watching 'Is it cake' on Netflix and some other food based show that had that guy from American Pie hosting.

Why are they so cheesy? Like kids TV presenters, coming out on small bikes and acting dopey.

It's really annoying.

It’s a different culture that likes different things than Brits?

?????? To you maybe. There are cultural differences made for American audiences. Why are British presenters so deadpan, not funny despite thinking they are and cheap looking?

Am I mistaken and these shows are actually aimed at kids?

No, I know what you mean - to our ears, it's so clearly fake and put on that it feels insulting to the intelligence - no one is THAT delirious to be introducing cakes, surely? But it's just a cultural difference - they're happier to express excitement and friendliness and positivity. We noticed that when we lived in North America - at first it did our heads in - after a year or two we got annoyed when our British friends visited and were so damn negative and cynical and had to make a joke of EVERYTHING... (we got over it when we moved back! 😄)

I actually think we're going that way with our game shows and competitions, all that manufactured excitement; but there's always that race-memory of the 70s, with Bruce Forsyth and Larry Grayson and Les Dawson gently insulting the punters...

My kids love that show but he is obviously putting on an act that is way over the top and annoying. I doubt that's his real personality. I don't think it's a kids show but a family show that kids will watch.
