Can we have a sock thread please?

I've just bought 5 pairs from Next - black socks with little woodland animals on the bottom. But - they feel so 'nylony' and too thin - urggghhh - disappointed as I know I'll hate wearing them.

Looking for socks that aren't too hot/sweaty, don't shrink in the wash (had some pretty Seasalt ones that shrank and also Fatface ones did) with plenty of stretch in them but feel like cotton?

Feel like I'm asking for the impossible 😂

My sister got me some from Thought for Christmas. They have higher cotton content and are thicker than most. They haven’t shrunk at all in the wash I don’t think.

FavouriteYellowChair · 27/10/2024 07:00

Second Thought. I have also just thrown some away (Sock Shop from Amazon) for being nylony and horrible.

saveforthat · 27/10/2024 07:01

I buy men's socks from Tesco (I have big feet). They are excellent quality and last for years. Recently tried Sainsbury's which were much thinner and "nylony".

BAM socks are great, made from bamboo and very comfortable.

Are you washing your socks that shrink too hot? I've hot Seasalt ones and they haven't shrunk.

Onelifeonly · 27/10/2024 07:09

I get plain black ones from M&S with thicker soles. They are soft and cosy and come in a pack of 3, I think. Bought them a lot over the last few years. But I can't be doing with patterned socks - not for work anyway.

UnderOverUp · 27/10/2024 07:11

Mens socks. I almost exclusively buy men’s socks these days (this may not work if you have tiny feet) because they are always thicker and more comfortable than women’s. Joules are my favourite.

Iclyn · 27/10/2024 07:16

Agree with the above , Bam socks .

leafybrew · 27/10/2024 07:17

I do have big feet ie size 8 - so could try mens.

Yes - probably too hot a wash if 40 degrees is too hot.Confused but not changing that - won't be buying Seasalt socks, though I do like some of their other stuff ie clothing which washes fine.

Thought socks are a great shout - had one pair for Christmas one year and absolutely love them - so comfy and not at all sweaty/nylony.

Will also checkout the M and S ones in a 3 pack

I agree bamboo socks are the answer, the best place to buy them is tkmax they always have a large selection.

Firenzeflower · 27/10/2024 07:21

Boots do these soft top socks. They stay on your feet but don’t grip around your ankle. They come in black and grey and are brilliant.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 27/10/2024 07:23

I love the BAM ones with the roll tops.

Plus they randomly send me free pairs which tops up my collection.

I have some merino ones from Marks and Spencer which are ok too they are from the blokes section.

LadyChilli · 27/10/2024 07:24

Definitely check out men's socks. I was queueing in Primark to pay for women's trainer socks, but at the checkout in the men's section. You know the way they have socks along the queue and I idly picked up a pair of the men's equivalent and couldn't believe the difference in thickness and quality. Dumped the women's ones and will never look back.

LizzieSiddal · 27/10/2024 07:26

BAM’s are great and so is M&S. M&S have such a huge selection you’ll find what you want.

ThePoshUns · 27/10/2024 07:41

I love Bam socks especially when they send me freebies

LifeofBrienne · 27/10/2024 07:48

I got multi-packs of M&S school socks for DS and me, ‘size 4-7’. They quickly shrunk to be uncomfortably tight on my (size 5.5) feet. I bought some larger women’s socks and they are comfortable so far but are so thin I don’t think they will last long.

SisterMaryLuke · 27/10/2024 08:49

To go against the grain here. As much as I find bamboo socks really comfortable, IMO they just do not last. I find M&S mens cotton socks far more durable and they are comfortable too.

Fat Face quality has gone downhill since they were taken over by Next. I have old Christmas Fat Face socks that are great, now when I look at them, I think nope.

MeMyCatsAndI · 27/10/2024 09:04

I got 20 pairs from temu for like £4.
Best socks I've ever had! Not sweaty, not nylon-y just soft cotton.

MeMyCatsAndI · 27/10/2024 09:04

Why has my comment been hidden about socks? 😳

BaronessBomburst · 27/10/2024 09:08

Did it include the word 'puppet'? 🧦 😆

I agree with other posters and buy M&S mens socks too. Definitely warmer and better quality.

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/10/2024 09:15

My BAM socks have lasted for ages.

In winter, I have Nordic socks, but my feet are always cold, so I need something robust.

Mynewnameis · 27/10/2024 09:17

M&S ultimate comfort are quite good.

Doggymummar · 27/10/2024 09:17

Amazon have some great Merino wool ones that I love.

FastBeater · 27/10/2024 09:20

We wash all socks at 30C now, it's helped a lot.

And I won't buy socks where I'm at the high end of the size range either.

Agree that BAM socks are nice. Also National Trust bamboo socks and Darn tough socks (guaranteed for life but £).
