Is your heating still off?

DH put shoes on today and I put slippers on so I'm thinking the time is nigh.
Todays 'chilly toes' were the first time we looked at each other and wondered.
He's out at work all day but I work from home Mon-Fri so I'm expecting to notice the cold first.
So, not today, but socks deployed.

Mines set at 17 and comes on as needed.

nottaotter · 26/10/2024 22:40

heating been on for almost a month , but I hate being cold at home. I often go out with no coat, but in the house I need to be warm.

Quornflakegirl · 26/10/2024 22:43

Not here, our house is very warm thankfully. I am still sleeping with the fan on - thanks perimenopause.

Wherehasallthetimegone · 26/10/2024 22:44

My heating is still off. But the house is starting to feel chilly.
The thermostat is set for it to come on at 13° during the day, 6° during the night. So far it hasn't got that cold yet . Thank goodness.

What? Thermostat set to 19 and I boost it in the evenings. Where do you live the Caribbean?

Scotland!
I've trained myself over the last few years to tolerate the cold. I don't enjoy it but I tolerate it .

It's quite unhealthy to be under 16 degrees. Causes the blood to thicken and other dangerous things. So be careful.

NunyaBeeswax · 26/10/2024 22:55

Nope it's 15c in my room right now and it's perfect for me.

OhMyGollyGoshGosh · 26/10/2024 22:56

We just stick it on/off as we need it. We don't set it to come on automatically.

We've had it on a few times over the last month or so.

coffeesaveslives · 26/10/2024 22:56

Ours has been on for maybe two hours so far. It was t-shirt weather here today!

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 26/10/2024 22:59

Ours is set for 18 mornings and evenings, 13 the rest of the time, it has come on a few times in the mornings, we never switch it off completely just let the thermostat do its thing.

smallchange · 26/10/2024 23:01

No. 20 degrees indoors at the moment so it's fine.

I've just bought a dehumidifier and I think the drier air is making it feel ok even at 18, plus the main reason for turning it on at this time of year was getting clothes dry and the dehumidifier has been great for that.

We're in a flat with good insulation though.

GiantRoadPuzzle · 26/10/2024 23:02

Our house hasn’t dropped below 20 degrees so far, so I’m fully expecting it to stay off until November.

Aussie DH needs it to be at least 18 degrees (plus layers and blankets any time he sits down).

Next weekend does look like it’s getting chilly.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 26/10/2024 23:03

I put the Heston on when it's cold or we have too much condensation. Old house, no thermostat. It was on this morning but doors open this evening .

CoastalCalm · 26/10/2024 23:03

Downstairs 19 , upstairs still off as we prefer cooler bedrooms

So it is dangerous to stay outdoor?
It's more or less <16 C all year round here outdoor.

Kibble29 · 26/10/2024 23:08

I think we’re sitting at about 16 just now, so all good as it’s bedtime lol.

Had it on when required for weeks though. I’m not into the “heat the person not the room” thing and I don’t want my son to be cold, so I’ll use it whenever I need to. I’m in a position to be able to turn it on whenever, so I want to make sure of our warmth.

Heart goes out to anyone having to sit in the cold, it’s a terrible situation and we’re miles off the coldest time of year yet.

MumChp · 26/10/2024 23:08

It was on yesterday night a few hours for a first this autumn.
Now the windows are open again.

It's important to keep houses at certain temperatures to protect health:

Flossflower · 26/10/2024 23:15

It has been on since the beginning of September but it is only activated if it goes below 21degrees. It goes off overnight.

Where do you live. Shetland?

Fink · 26/10/2024 23:17

I live in a multigenerational household, including elderly people, and they've had the heating on since September, but I much prefer my electric blanket. When I've got the house to myself, I stick to the electric blanket in bed, heated throw while working/on the sofa, and if it gets really cold then I've also got a heated gilet. I love snuggling up under something cosy and I'd never turn the heating on if I had the choice.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 26/10/2024 23:26

Nope, we go by the house temp, if it goes below 12, we put the heating on, not all day mind, just till it gets to a suitable temp… everyone has jumpers and we have blankets on the sofa. It’s still like 12/13 degrees overnight at the moment so not even close to putting it on.

SmallestMan · 26/10/2024 23:27

Ours comes on when it gets to 15.5 in the day, 14.5 in the night. I can’t imagine the internal temperature ever getting to 21 even in summer.

GhostCicada · 26/10/2024 23:27

I'm a cold creature, I wear thermals but even then I've felt the cold a bit recently so have stuck it on a few times. I replaced my heated throw today(the last one gave up the ghost at the end of last winter) so the heat will probably stay off for a while now. Dh and ds don't feel the cold and dd either snuggles with me under the throw or snuggles in her bed with her heated blanket.
