Should I skip lunch

I don’t have an eating disorder. I’m over weight and I’m trying to diet. I weigh 12 stone and should weigh about 9 stone.
I planned my menu for the week and
in the middle of the night got hungry and had an extra sandwhich. I am on my period to be fair. I’m not sure if I should skip lunch today to make up for it. It feels cruel

I wouldn’t skip lunch as you will end up snacking, just try to stick to your meal plan the rest of the week and make sure it is realistic and not too low calorie to stick to.

OhMyGollyGoshGosh · 26/10/2024 13:24

If you’re asking should you skip lunch, you probably don’t need it.

If you’re hungry then eat some 🤷‍♀️

Don't skip lunch as you will crave unhealthy food later in the day. Focus on eating something satiating and healthy built around fibre and protein, avoid the processed carbs and sugars.

I wouldn't skip lunch, just carry on as you were. One extra sandwich won't make any difference. You've got to be realistic too, there may be the odd day when you eat a bit more than usual but as long as you stick at it most of the time you'll be fine.

A sandwich is what? 300ish calories?

Go for a brisk walk this afternoon or jog up and down stairs for 15 minutes if you're really bothered by the extra calories.

Also we get hungrier during menstruation because our bodies require more calories.

OriginalUsername2 · 26/10/2024 13:29

Just stick to meal times. There’s no need for a sandwich in the middle of the night. Get comfortable with feeling a bit hungry.

coffeesaveslives · 26/10/2024 13:30

Why would you skip lunch?

Heelworkhero · 26/10/2024 13:33

It’s ok to feel hungry.
If I feel hungry in the night (pretty much never do) or when I’m shortly going to bed, I remind myself that feeling hungry is perfectly ok and I can wait until the morning.

My husband is overweight and starts to eat the moment his tummy suggests it’s not completely full.
He sees hunger as something to be avoided at all costs.
It’s really not.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/10/2024 13:37

The fact you woke in the night for a sandwich means you'll probably do so again if you skip a meal. Could you go for a lower calorie lunch, like a big salad without anything carby? But it depends on how many calories you're allowing yourself? If you're too strict you'll end up heading for the midnight snacking again.
Could you have some grapes or chopped fruit in the fridge so if hunger strikes at night you could reach for those?

Dragonflysparkles · 26/10/2024 13:38

I think you need to address why you get up in the night and make yourself a sandwich. Are you really so very hungry you actually need to do that, and if so why? What are you eating and importantly drinking throughout the day

Bestyearever2024 · 26/10/2024 13:38

in the middle of the night got hungry

You could try drinking 500 mls of water instead of eating

Petrine · 26/10/2024 13:38

You mention that you don’t have an eating disorder - I can’t imagine anyone thinking that you do by just skipping lunch - it’s no big deal.

TheSnugHare · 26/10/2024 13:49

ok I will have lunch, thanks everyone
