Do you ever get so distracted by something in a movie that it distracts you from the plot?

While watching Jurassic World, I can't get past how the main character, Claire, runs around the park in massive high heels, doing all that she does. It distracts me too much! If someone injures themselves and carries on, the injury and lack of treatment occupy my thoughts to the point where I'm unable to follow the storyline. Does this happen to you too when you watch movies?

Suitcases! No struggles to carry one, or put it in their car boot without a struggle . Drives me mad!

Another one is when someone pukes and then just gets on with their day. No teeth cleaning, gargling, or even having a glass of water.

It’s even worse when they chunder and then go in for a snog. Yuk.

🤢

I know it's a real-life example, but there's a scene in one of the Below Decks where one of the deckhands vomits, then he's kissing one of the stews not long afterward.

When someone is shot / dies / is injured and no one attempts any kind of resuscitation or calls an ambulance etc

They just wail on them. 😡

More CPR would be amazing on TV and in film to normalise it!

I struggled to watch Nativity 2, as I kept seeing safeguarding issues.

jaundicedoutlook · 25/10/2024 23:01

People who just end phone calls without any kind of acknowledgment that they are about to do so…

At the end of School of Rock, fake teacher Jack Black opens an after-school music club in his apartment with the very children he pretended to be a teacher to for weeks.

Sister Act 2 is another film with safeguarding concerns.

My main problem is “oh What have I seen him/her in before” 🤣🤣

Edited

Yes!! Then I end up googling whatever film or programme I'm watching, to find out and either missing half of what I'm watching or it's on and off pause for ages

Bluescissorsbluepen · 25/10/2024 23:04

All the spontaneous weddings/burthdays/celebrations with your work colleagues! My my would be like wtf you could text me but Allan from accounts who shuffles papers but doesn’t have lines was there??? And the infinite money for thesd celebrations. Anyone who’s ever organised the work Christmas party knows it’s a 3 month negotiation never mind an impromptu booze up cause Chloe has saved her job.

Haha yes! My boss would have called by 9.10! 😆

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/10/2024 23:07

American science fiction films. The aliens always seem to be bipeds. At least Dr Who has daleks.

LunaNorth · 25/10/2024 23:07

Any film or programme that features therapists drives me nuts. They always, ALWAYS transgress boundaries and behave in totally inappropriate ways.

Bloody ruined The Sixth Sense for me. The whole premise was as shonky as hell. As if a child psychologist would just stalk the kid. I was so distracted by that, I was relieved when the twist came and he wasn’t a weird, stalkery perv after all.

chattyness · 25/10/2024 23:08

When a character has asthma but they never use their inhaler properly, it annoys me so much that they don't get that right

Hohohopeful · 25/10/2024 23:10

Bad British accents- or even worse bad Scottish accents.

Also they come to Scotland and have to get approval from.the "clan council" "local laird" for something or the locals are amazed by their American awesomeness (watched a Christmas film the other week where an American came over and wowed the village with Christmas lights which they had never had before because the Laird wanted a traditional Scottish Christmas)

When people call and make a date having never exchanged numbers, or make a date and he says "I'll pick you up at 8" but they've not exchanged addresses.

When people cook and touch food, then don't wash their hands.

And yes as others have said- morning breath. They roll over and kiss in the morning having just woken up. 🤢

WorriedRelative · 25/10/2024 22:21

This.

Happens in everything

DH has the same with trains/railways. The amount of times I can't follow a film because he's banging on about, "GWR didn't operate that line, and those carriages weren't built when that loco was operating"

He nearly had an aneurysm watching Night Sleeper!

My dad was like this. Don't think he could "loose" himself in a film. Thank god I hate crime investigation type telly so I can't get enraged about science. But I remember watching a bond film with IT programmer in it and did get 'the rage' but normally I'm totally oblivious. However I do think about the insurance claims in big multi car crash chases.

If I was in jurassic Park I'd be hobbling around, moaning about my ankles and covered in snot. Plus I would NEVER go looking for a t rex etc. I have a survival instinct. I listen to it.

Ellmau · 25/10/2024 23:14

Hair/makeup/teeth in historical films. Sometimes clothes too, but they generally try a bit harder to get that right.

British characters written by an American scriptwriter often sound wrong.

Anything they've decided to pointlessly change from the book it's based on.

Characters in enormous houses/designer clothing they would never afford IRL.

Wondering what visa a foreign character must be on and is it plausible.

Inappropriate age gaps (50ish star actor and 20ish actress playing his love interest) where it isn't plausible in the story.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 25/10/2024 22:39

When I saw the film Inception.

Marion Cottilard. She has a big dark mole in the middle of her forehead, and it was very distracting. 😬

She is quite attractive, but that mole is quite unsightly IMO, and I don't understand why she hasn't had it removed.

That’s such a shitty thing to say. She’s beautiful and you’re shallow.

SuperfluousHen · 25/10/2024 23:19

They just hang up the phone / end phone calls. Never say buh bye or anything!

Haha yes, same here. I then go down a Wiki / IMDB wormhole.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 25/10/2024 23:26

It annoys me (and I annoy my DH when I point it out!) when things change in the scene between takes - a glass starts off half full but is then full and then empty etc because they've done multiple takes and used different bits.

It happens loads - coats move, furniture moves, plates refill, all sorts.

And yes to drinking out of clearly empty cups.

AgathaMystery · 25/10/2024 23:26

Attelina · 25/10/2024 22:31

Dark hair dye especially on men. It's usually the same flat all over dark almost black colour and looks ridiculous on men over 45.

This.

I don’t under it. Maverick is the perfect example. Tom Cruise looked okay in that movie, but Jennifer Connolly looked terrific. Tom’s hair was flat dark brown with a purple cast to it. There’s no need, he’d look great with his natural hair colour. Whatever it is.

also yes to empty luggage/ bags/coffee cups.

HollyKnight · 25/10/2024 23:29

I'm boring. It's the medical inaccuracies that get to me. Bad CPR. CPR on dead dead people. Attempting CPR while in the arsehole of nowhere when you can't call for help and don't have a defib. People ripping out cannulas without a drop of blood appearing. People falling off buildings, getting punch through walls, getting smashed over the head by heavy objects...and walking away from it just fine. But also getting hit on the back with a vase/chair/beer bottle and losing consciousness. Etc 😩

Eastie77Returns · 25/10/2024 23:33

Small children in films and tv programs generally display impeccable behaviour and never have tantrums, regardless of any traumatic experience they have been through.

I watched Maid (Netflix) and thought it was very good but completely unrealistic in the way it depicted a constantly compliant and happy 2 year old who didn’t once get upset despite being dragged between multiple homes, homeless shelters and sleeping in random places like her her mum’s car.
