Do you ever get so distracted by something in a movie that it distracts you from the plot?

While watching Jurassic World, I can't get past how the main character, Claire, runs around the park in massive high heels, doing all that she does. It distracts me too much! If someone injures themselves and carries on, the injury and lack of treatment occupy my thoughts to the point where I'm unable to follow the storyline. Does this happen to you too when you watch movies?

When they take something out of a clearly cold oven.

Haha, yes, no one is steaming up their glasses taking food out of the oven.

Horse-related. Inappropriate saddlery and riding style which is incompatible with the period setting of the film.

This.

Happens in everything

DH has the same with trains/railways. The amount of times I can't follow a film because he's banging on about, "GWR didn't operate that line, and those carriages weren't built when that loco was operating"

He nearly had an aneurysm watching Night Sleeper!

Night Sleeper is on my to-watch list. I'll be watching for these things, but I probably won't understand them! 😁

A play rather than a movie but precovid I went to a stage performance of Malory Towers which had six lead characters and five beds in the dormitory scenes. Afterwards one of the people I went with pointed out this was a theatrical tool to show how allegiances changed throughout according to who sat on whose bed so was grouped together which actually in retrospect made sense but it just annoyed me as I was watching it.

My main problem is “oh What have I seen him/her in before” 🤣🤣

Edited

This!

Oh, I wouldn't be able to concentrate. I'm with you on this!

Dark hair dye especially on men. It's usually the same flat all over dark almost black colour and looks ridiculous on men over 45.

No one ever says hello or bye when they use the phone in movies. It's so rude that it's distracting.

Vanfan · 25/10/2024 22:34

I dont pay close attention to films usually so physical similarities in the characters makes it confusing ( totally my own fault I know).
2 Blonde women with similar hairstyles or 2 bearded men as main characters can stop me from understanding any of it.

Yes, always cold and to the point!

Definitely the "what we she/ in before" end up down a Google rabbit hole and miss half the plot!
And, as a vet, when gunshot victims get taken to a vet to fix!! I wouldn't have a clue! Still awaiting the day a gangster turns up at my clinic with a gunshot wound!

Paintbyalphabet · 25/10/2024 22:38

Why does no one have any curtains or blinds? Privacy issues and bright daylight bother me. Don't even get me started on baths next to huge windows with no screens.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 25/10/2024 22:39

When I saw the film Inception.

Marion Cottilard. She has a big dark mole in the middle of her forehead, and it was very distracting. 😬

She is quite attractive, but that mole is quite unsightly IMO, and I don't understand why she hasn't had it removed.

Perfect straight white teeth in the medieval era (or any other historical era) ESPECIALLY when the character is supposedly poverty stricken.

Or they simply remove it themselves with basic tweezers and those metal kidney-shaped bowls.

The misogyny from Ryan Gosling’s character in The Notebook. Couldn’t concentrate on the film at all.

Yep. I seem to remember she was dressed in white too, which stayed remarkably clean.

For me, it’s the amount of drink driving Cameron Diaz does in The Holiday. It’s ridiculous, even for that film.

Thepossibility · 25/10/2024 22:46

When I was watching Breaking Bad and they were apparently struggling for money but every day had these super elaborate breakfasts every morning. Eggs, pancakes, fruit salad etc. We aren't struggling but couldn't afford to eat breakfast like that daily!

GinToBegin · 25/10/2024 22:50

Definitely the obviously empty coffee cups, but also when the geography is so obviously wrong. I think it might have been London Has Fallen, so okay, you know it’s going to be far-fetched tosh, but there’s a dramatic chase through the city, one left turn and they’re on Embankment. I know it doesn’t matter, but it drives me potty.

This is a bit niche, but years ago, watching Patriot Games, Harrison Ford is racing along a tube platform, chasing someone or something and there’s a station announcement, which never happened at the time on the tube, but to add insult to injury, the announced stops were nonsense, so it was like ‘the next train will call at Embankment, Temple, Bank, Reading and Congleton’. Okay, I’m paraphrasing, but it was so incongruous, and absolutely, totally irrelevant to the scene anyway.

But I still can’t resist far-fetched tosh.

Yes, and her hair is beautifully wavy at the end. Those heels stay on even while trying to outrun a T-rex!

Another one is when someone pukes and then just gets on with their day. No teeth cleaning, gargling, or even having a glass of water.

It’s even worse when they chunder and then go in for a snog. Yuk.

HairAreYourAerials · 25/10/2024 22:52

I had to stop watching a Netflix series recently because I couldn't get past the amount of botox the main actor had clearly had. He was supposed to be a high school teacher or something like that, so it really didn't suit the character.

You just reminded me that being attracted strongly to one of the actors is a MASSIVE distraction 😄
