Speaking to my mum today and she told me this isn't normal

I never really thought about it because its something that has always happened to me, Didn't really think anything of it until my mum brought it up today..

Say I start to feel hungry, it will get to a certain point where if I don't eat something pretty much straight away i will start to feel so sick and ill, that when i actually do eat it makes me feel more sick, it doesn't take away the hunger. so basically I will then have to force down the meal feeling sick, it just sort of gets to a certain point then once that point passes it wouldn't matter if I ate 3 plate fulls of food it wouldn't take away my hunger.

So basically I go from 'I could do with getting something to eat' to 'I feel so sick with hunger that its making me feel ill' within a few minutes then i eat something and feel really sick throughout the meal and it feels like I have to force it down, then once the meal is gone I just feel sick and hungry..

Been like this my entire life.. I remember years ago getting home from work feeling so hungry, then the sickness started when I was waiting for a food delivery, by the time it arrived i couldn't eat it at all and just felt sick the rest of the night.

Mum thinks i need to go to the doctors but its not a recent thing at all so would i be wasting their time? anyone else out there have this?

I've had something like this for as long as I can remember, pretty much every morning but it can happen at other times too. I describe it as feeling like my stomach is digesting itself.
I can't queue for food in any location that smells of food as it makes it worse.

@RamonaRamirez one of my parents, my great aunt and a cousin also have this like I do.

People who say why don't you eat before it gets this bad?

Life gets in the way, you can't always guarantee you will eat at the right time.
Lie ins after a night out, work commitments, waiting in traffic after a 12 hour day... these things can't always be helped.

I have this and I have hypoglycaemia. If I get to the too sick to eat stage I will drink a bit of something sugary and wait before nibbling a snack. I can’t sit down to a full meal after going too long without food.

My dad had this and he was diabetic so worth getting your blood sugar checked. Your mum is right it's not normal so it's important that you get a full health check done.

Oh I’m so glad to not feel so alone in this agony!! Some days I wake feeling so sick and shaky. Think it’s acid reflux but not sure. It’s horrendous at times 😞 Lanzoprasole doesn’t even touch the sides sometimes 😩

So at what point does the hunger go away? It must go away at some point or else you would never be free of hunger and you say the start of this pattern is when you start to feel hungry. So at what point after you have eaten and then feel sick and still hungry does this feeling abate?

I get this, although if I don't eat quickly I am usually actually sick. Eating relieves it though. I'd assumed blood sugar.
Now I'm on weightloss tablets (semaglutide) which trigger insulin production, I don't seem to get it.

Sounds like a stomach acid issue. Stomach acid builds up and irritates your stomach lining. With too much stomach acid your body either thinks it wants food or to be sick, or you can feel both at the same time. If it has really irritated your stomach you may continue to feel sick even after eating because your body thinks that throwing up is what is required to fix the problem.

I would keep healthy snacks to hand at all times and try to eat at set times. If you can't manage a meal at a set time, have a snack to keep the acid busy.

Something like this happens to me if I forget to eat (easy to do as following major gastric surgery I no longer have a hunger reflex). I feel tired, light-headed, sick and very irritable. I usually have a complex carb like an apple or a couple of plain biscuits as I can't have pure sugar (for the same reason), and sit down somewhere quiet with my eyes closed until I recover. I don't try to force down a meal. I've never timed it but it sorts it out fairly quickly and when the nausea has passed I'll then have a small healthy meal.
