Know this is off piste on todays conversations I have received my PiP renewal letter this morning, finally found the courage to open it they have continued to award me standard rate on both elements which is fine grateful I’m not unwell enough to qualify for the higher rate, but confused about this bit does this mean they won’t make me reapply every year or so like they have been doing for the last few years? Just a bit thrown.

They really are going to leave you alone for 10 years, @dontcallmelen which is excellent news 🎉

dontcallmelen · 31/10/2024 17:14

Thank you Pointy & Pickachew 💐
tbh I can’t express the sheer relief really wasn’t expecting this decision the last ten months waiting for the outcome has been really very stressful, thank you everyone for kindness shown.

Saucery · 31/10/2024 17:20

What a relief @dontcallmelen ! It’s always a pleasant surprise when the system works as it should. Glad you can rest easy about that particular tortuous paperwork Flowers

BIossomtoes · 31/10/2024 17:21

Brilliant news @dontcallmelen. I’m really pleased for you.

Willowkins · 31/10/2024 17:25

Happy it's finally been sorted @dontcallmelen and you have one less thing to worry about

I'm so pleased you're on 10 year light touch, @dontcallmelen . My DS got this as well, he's on higher rate for both and none of his conditions are going to get materially better - only worse. It's nice to see they get it right sometimes.

My da did the renewal form where all he had to do was say if things worse, better or the same.

Currently until 2028.

I'm hoping he gets on light touch. He has autism and a degenerative neuromuscular condition.

He ain't making no miraculous recovery 😂

On another note we have an appointment at wheelchair clinic at end of the month. I will probably pick your brains nearer the time!!!!

I'm so pleased for you and so pleased it's a weight off your mind. It's so shit having a chronic illness or disability without this added stress GinFlowers

Excellent news @dontcallmelen

I think I will stay with this thread for the forseeable. I saw some comments elsewhere that are so wrong.
How short the memories can be, astonishing.

Please do - I hope that you get some freedom to look at bespoke solutions because the basic NHS issue is no good to man nor beast.

Great news @dontcallmelen Flowers

itsgettingweird · 31/10/2024 20:07

I'm going to see what they offer and if needs be we will take a voucher and go to local indie providers.

After your extremely helpful advice previously I've already visited them. Ds has tried out models he'd like. They informed me I'd need to ask about voucher. I sold my car recently when ds got his motability vehicle and I've saved the funds with the leftover car payment to fund it privately if needs be.

We also have the option of paying a deposit and paying monthly if needed.

And I've just had my payrise confirmed and will be backdated to April in December pay so I'm set up to go whatever way is best for him.

I did the Sky budget calculator. I had to guess a bit on fuel consumption and wine intake, but apparently I’ll be £19.61 worse off over the year. However will I cope!
Though it didn’t ask what sort of pension I’m on - it’s public sector so will increase in April. So looks like I’ll be better off…

I am going to be 76p better off. I promise not to spend it all!

At least on Saturday there will be non-budget news. See if the Tories choose between someone whose policies I don't agree with, or one whose policies and corrupt character I object to.

Alongside the BBC no doubt having yet more articles on their sport pages about Manchester United's supposed difficulties.

pointythings · 31/10/2024 20:47

@itsgettingweird you're so organised it's scary! I'm so glad I was able to give you useful advice.

Saucery · 31/10/2024 20:48

I’ll be 60p worse off. Ffs, might start a thread complaining about Labour now Angry

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/10/2024 21:10

Have you considered crowdfunding @Saucery. I’d donate a penny for you.

pointythings · 31/10/2024 21:16

I'll be about £10 worse off, which I could avoid by giving up wine, which won't be happening given how little of it I drink.

cardibach · 31/10/2024 21:24

I’m giving up on the ‘explain the budget to me’ thread.
It’s worse than Truss’s budget apparently.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 31/10/2024 21:44

I've often thought that mumsnetters can be completely out of step with the rest of society and this thread proves it. At least Reeves can comfort herself with the knowledge that although financial experts, top political journalists, the markets, the OBR and the general public are all against her there's a little corner of the internet where she'll always be the second coming no matter what.

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/10/2024 21:55

Amazing how angry closing some tax avoidance loopholes can make some people.

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/10/2024 21:57

Hilariously, somebody on a private schools VAT thread has just pointed out to me that if the figures show nobody has moved because of the policy then it has failed.

Make up your fucking minds. It is now a failure if people both do and don’t remove their children.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2024 21:59

Reeves will beat a lettuce with ease

She’s an absolute idiot.
