I just saw the gorgeous doggy in the background. Worth it.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 14:15

Oh shut up RS - as if the Conservatives ever cared about working people

Really! What dog? Have I missed one of our furry friends?

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 14:16

Sunak is just full of 'how dare you blame us for the last 14 years'

Really good budget. I feel. Rishis response was just completely full of lies

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 14:17

@WomenInConstruction a golden retriever in the background when RS was speaking

I guess it's Jenny the guide dog

The OBR says the government is forecast to save £1.4bn in 2025-26 as a result of ending the Rwanda plan, scrapping the retrospective nature of the Illegal Migration Act, and getting the asylum decision making decisions again.

I think she comes across brilliantly, she's a properly trained economist, and I don't think would take ANY decision lightly. Bravo, RR!

I also really liked her blouse (sorry!).

Smoothopera · 30/10/2024 14:33

Usual moaner and groaner on the other thread I notice. They can never be graceful when proved entirely wrong.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 14:44

They are mostly moaning about IHt it seems?

IHT, farmers and SDLT being mentioned.

"Weak growth in imports and exports over the medium term partly reflect the continuing impact of Brexit, which we expect to reduce the overall trade intensity of the UK economy by 15 per cent in the long term" says the OBR

The elephant needs addressing

So. Labour may have made some fuck ups in the first few weeks, but as far as I can see they have got this, the biggest call of all, broadly right.

I did too, but I also had the feeling that some will have issue with the pussy bow as Thatcher liked to wear them!

Hopefully this is a(nother) link in an unbroken chain that needs to lead towards rejoining the EU.

Liam Byrne speaking - I like him. Never really known him before but he's another calm speaker with great explanations.

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomew She's increased the employment allowance from £5000 to £10,500.

Sorry to sound incredibly thick but what does that mean in real terms for a small employer ? Does that mean they don't have to pay contributions on the first 10,500 of an employees wages ?

Well I hope none of those people are on the style and beauty board because blouses just like that are linked all the time.

Old info, obviously, but that is the amount taken off an employer's NI bill https://www.gov.uk/claim-employment-allowance

So if your friend's bill has been, say £4800, she wouldn't have had to pay that because it would have been covered by the allowance. If she was worried about the increased rate taking it over £5000, then she doesn't have to be because the allowance has increased by far more to the point that if she was doing well enough to employ another staff member or increase hours for existing staff, she possibly could do so without incurring a NI bill.

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 15:22

Ha. Usual suspects coming out to froth on the other thread.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 15:35

Seems sensible from what I’ve seen. The party that brought us Brexit and austerity don’t get to have an opinion on the economy as far as I am concerned.

Nothing on environment or green transport as far as I can see very little on social care. That might be an issue but this largely seems to be an easing the cost of living budget.

SerendipityJane · 30/10/2024 15:40

Seems farmers are a bit upset ? Sure they will get over it.
