How old is your Miele.

I’m a big fan of Miele appliances so was gutted when my dishwasher died yesterday. It is 20years old and apart from a small crack on a plastic part of the middle tray caused by my DS slamming the door when he was a toddler, it had been a quiet and efficient member of my household. I will be sad that see it go.

I have ordered its replacement and I’m looking forward to a long relationship with a new model.

Along with the dishwasher I have a 19yr old Miele washing machine, equally loved and cherished, again apart from a safety cut out after a flood in the garage which is easily fixed, it has been disaster free.

Along with a couple of Miele vacuum cleaners, whose joint age is about 35 yrs, the total years of service I’ve had from Miele products is a 74 yrs. I wonder if anyone can beat this?

My only other wonder machine is my Kenwood Chef, inherited from my late DM. It has been in service for approx 50yrs with only one repair and overhaul carried out last year when the wiring loom failed.

I worked out that my dishwasher has cost me between £15 per year. It cost me around £300 20yrs ago which seemed like a huge investment at the time. Its predecessor lasted less than five years and for comparison had cost £40 a year.

I've never even heard of Miele! 😮

grassyknees · 26/10/2024 07:02

My Miele washing machine was bought in 2004 and is still going strong 😀

Appleblum · 26/10/2024 07:03

Compared to yours my miele vacuum is a youngster! It's 7/8 years old and works perfectly well. It looks dated now compared to all the cordless stick vacuums but there's really no reason for me to give it up. Washing machine is about the same age too but I've had to replace a part a few years back as it was worn out and I think I'll have to get the same part replaced again soon. They are very good quality and I regret not shelling out for a miele dishwasher.

18 years for our Miele washing machine, but also same for the Bosch dishwasher (touch wood re both!).

whirlyhead · 26/10/2024 07:08

I had a miele washing machine that lasted 20 years which was great.

however, I also had one of their fridges which only survived 7 years before developing 4 different faults and needing to be thrown out. My miele vacuum cleaner blew up after 18 months too and my friends very expensive hob lasted 7 years.

according to my appliance man who specialises in mieles, they are no longer as well made as they were and don’t last. He encouraged me to buy a different brand of washing machine.

Zoesmumma · 26/10/2024 07:14

My parents had always had Miele and had similar longevity. So two years ago I bought a Miele fridge, thinking it would be excellent and it’s sadly not! And the warranty was only one or two years on it and it started playing up a few months out of warranty. It’s still going but requires someone to manually scoop water out of the overflowing drip tray or it leaks everywhere.

So it’s not performed better than any of the cheaper fridges I’ve had over the last 20yrs.

They are the poshest brand of electric appliances and amazing quality. I used to sell them in John Lewis years ago. Roughly twice the cost of other brands but last at least 20 years on average.

When my Miele washing machine died from old age, I got a Samsung. It is a worthy successor. The vacuum is still going strong, it has outlasted the dog that I bought it to clean up after. He was 15 when he died last year.

booksforever · 26/10/2024 08:08

I had to replace my 27 year old (cat and dog) vacuum cleaner last year. Next one might have to be gifted in my will! 😂

SunmerSazz · 26/10/2024 08:11

My Miele fridge was in the house when we moved in 21 years ago ~ think it was about 18 months old then so 22.5 years old. Th interior light doesn't work but I'm ok with that!

We did have to replace the freezer but that must have been 15 years ago.

RedRosesPinkLilies · 26/10/2024 08:15

We have a few Miele appliances, I think most of them have had problems in last ten years. The dishwasher hardly lasted at all and was replaced. The huge freezer made it to 8 years and broke down - it therefore cost about £1000 per year (they don’t make them any more).
I’m not that sure I would buy Miele in future.

Carpr · 26/10/2024 08:15

Well, our Vax carpet vacuum/washer is about 40 years old, the Miele vacuum my DM had was about 10 years old when it died

RandomMess · 26/10/2024 08:19

Current Miele vacuum cleaner is 10, previous one made it to about 15 but the teens x 4 managed to kill it somehow 🙄

The previous one to that was around 10 too but DH killed it 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

My parents was about 30!

StillCalendula · 26/10/2024 08:21

My miele vacuum cleaner was bought in 1993. It is still going strong. The only problem is that it doesn't pull the cord in any more.

OolongTeaDrinker · 26/10/2024 08:23

Our Miele dishwasher was bought by the previous owners of our house in 2006 and is still going strong (I hope I haven’t just jinxed it!)

Anisty · 26/10/2024 08:27

Not actually that old. About 5 years old i think (washing machine)

Before that, I had a Bosch wm. And it went to 21 years without and bother. I loved it because it was hot and cold fill. So, if there was hot water in the tank, it drew from there and did not use electricity to heat its own water.

You can't get hot and cold fill machines any more in the UK. And now we have a combi boiler so we don't have a hot water tank.

Anyway- pleased with my Miele and i picked it as i want it to last over 20 years, like my Bosch did. Bosch aren't building now for longevity as they used to.

I don't have any other Miele.

Dishwasher is Siemenns and doing well at 8 years old.

Vacuum is Sepa - fantastic but only 4 years old.

Fridge, freezer, oven and hob are all Bosch. Old Bosch freezer did 24 years.

Oven and hob are currently 20 years old.

Also have Dualit toaster and Dualit kettle doing well.

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 26/10/2024 08:28

Miele dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer all about 24 years old. Washing machine has been fixed a couple of times but still very happy with them and reckon it's worth paying for the fix than getting a new machine that will only last a very few years!

1apenny2apenny · 26/10/2024 08:32

As PP has said I believe the build quality has fallen. A key indicator of the lack of belief in their own products is that they now don't offer the longer warranty periods as standard.

Having had some issues with electrical products this week and having to battle to get anywhere with customer service of 2 big household names, one being John Lewis, I am now very wary of paying a lot for stuff. Personally I think it's safer to go for basic functions as there is less to go wrong.

You might also want to look at the current thread about Miele technicians and the very poor customer service the poster received.

MissRainbowBrite · 26/10/2024 08:32

Only had vacuum cleaners but our original Miele Cat and Dog is still going strong but has even relegated to a garage hoover for car cleaning as it's had a few pipe repairs, the actual motor is going strong at about 24 years old. We had a new Cat and Dog 2 years ago and have been equally impressed.

Anisty · 26/10/2024 08:34

* sorry, vacuum is Sebo - not sepa🤣

H0TBUZZIN · 26/10/2024 08:48

Miele Hoover with bag. 20 years old. Bought a cordless one but it wasn't a fraction as good so it's gone in the loft

brusselsprout5 · 26/10/2024 08:53

I have a Miele vacuum cleaner which is still used regularly & I bought it 25 years ago. Never needed anything except new bags & filters. Thought about buying a new one & giving this one to my sister but haven't yet!

ToBePerfectlyHonest · 26/10/2024 08:56

Miele washing machine, now 14.5 years old. It has heavy use, and has only needed one repair. That came outside of the 10 year guarantee, it was at 14 years old. It cost about £900 14 years ago, which seemed like a fortune, but it’s been amazing. I’m really hoping to get much longer out of it.

RedRobyn2021 · 26/10/2024 08:57

I have one of their hoovers which is now 7 years old and works well

CrikeyMajikey · 26/10/2024 09:06

My Miele drier died recently after 19 years of hardwork and brilliant service to my family. My washing machines only survived 7 years so I’ve changed to Siemens this time.
