Kids bed

Hi,

I’m on the hunt for a bed for my 5-year-old and, due to space constraints, I’m focusing on single beds. I’ve been eyeing the ones with pull-out trundle beds (for guests), with or without storage (would be great for his small room), but they all seem so expensive! And that’s before even thinking about mattresses.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We have an IKEA hemnes day bed. It’s slightly narrower than a standard single and my 13yo still sleeps in it (she’s on the small side but I find it comfy on the occasions I’ve slept in her bed). It pulls out and becomes king sized.

@TeenLifeMum Thanks so much! That’s really helpful to know. I’ve seen in some places that it’s suggested to switch from a single to a small double by around the age of 8, so it’s reassuring to hear you’ve been making good use of the single. We’re not planning on changing it quickly unless absolutely necessary.

I was just curious about the difference between a daybed and a single bed for children. Is there much of a difference in terms of stability and mattress support, or is it more about the style and appearance of the bed?
