Freezing Game Of Thrones GIF

Psyching myself up for tonight’s 6pm sea swim… it’s almost dark 😬

Did you do it and do you do it regularly? Also why?

Did it!
It was wonderful!

I do it because I love it once I’m in, it’s just sometimes the thought of it is a little off-putting.

I swim in the sea as often as I possibly can just for the sheer enjoyment- it’s therapy.

Tonight it was blowing a gale, very choppy and the tide was going out so we (I never swim alone, there’s a WhatsApp group of us) stayed nearer to the shore than we usually would and even so the current started to take us towards the rocks.

The only thing I didn’t like tonight was wading through the seaweed ‘soup’ to get to clear swimming water and the failing light.

back in at 9 tomorrow morning 🌊

Are you in the uk? What part?

SingingSands · 23/10/2024 19:38

Oh my goodness. Are you alone? Or do you go with a club? Is it safe in choppy seas in the dark? Do you wear a light and a float?

I'm a very timid swimmer - apologies for all the questions!

TheChosenTwo · 23/10/2024 20:28

Lovely! I’m not near the sea but I have a lake locally to me where they do regular almost daily organised swims but I haven’t been for a few weeks as I had Covid and felt so poorly and then was on holiday. In that time the lake has dropped another 2 degrees and is now sitting at about 12/13 degrees and I’ve got a night swim booked for Friday that I’m half looking forward to as I’ve missed it but half dreading 😂 it will be a stark contrast to all my lovely Mediterranean Sea swimming last week 😭

ginasevern · 24/10/2024 11:32

I'm a timid swimmer too and really don't like it when I can't see the bottom. The thought of wading through seaweed soup makes me shudder. I do love walking on wild, windswept beaches in the winter though especially if there's a trip to the pub at the end!

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/10/2024 11:34

Not my cup of tea but good luck and thanks for the glorious gif 😁

loropianalover · 24/10/2024 11:36

We live on the beach and I sea swim in summer/into Sept and Oct but have never found the strength to do it year round 😖 I actually find March/April the water can be the most cold!!!

There are plenty of daily swimmers here, even on Xmas day and stormy days.

Well done OP!

How was your night swim?
I’m just heading to the beach now for a lovely sunny one 🌊☀️

I don’t swim alone and yes there is a WhatsApp group so we ping out a messsge when we fancy a swim and see if anyone else is about. I need to get a float, although it’s more useful in the summer to warn jet skiers not to run over us- but we are in a group and I do wear a bright orange woolly hat over my swimming cap 🤣

just heading to the beach now for the regular Saturday 10am swim 🌊🌊🌊

It was 12 in the Irish Sea this morning where we were swimming, but not too windy and not choppy.
We saw a seal! 🦭- it came to have a look at these strange creatures in its environment, popped its head out 😄

Well done OP!

It was 12 degrees today and I’m reliably informed the really cold single figure temperatures are around March or so.
Last March I wasn’t living at a beach and wasn’t doing this sea swimming lark 🤣
I’m going to keep going in as long as I can - I’ve got neoprene gloves and bootees for when it really gets cold.

I'd LOVE that, but not near the sea.
I just dumped 10 litres of ice into my cold plunge that is currently 3.1 degrees though....Grin

Thelnebriati · 26/10/2024 11:38

I hear its really good for your heart, but I just can't bring myself to try it.

TheChosenTwo · 26/10/2024 12:01

I went last night @AgileGreenSeal and it was 11.5, was absolutely lovely and after the first minute my whole body went numb so couldn’t feel the cold at all! Really glad I went as I wasn’t feeling it beforehand.
id love to be nearer the sea but think I’d be nervy as I’m not a very strong swimmer!

I’m not a very strong swimmer either, just breast stroke about and float on my back when I’m tired. Tbh we don’t properly swim hard, just tread water, swim a bit and chat a lot 😄

Good for you pushing through and going in- it always feels great once you do.
keep at it 👍

Relaxing New York GIF by Nova Sound

Just had my first November swim, this afternoon.
was soooo calm today, virtually no waves and absolutely no wind.
and as a bonus I saw a seal! 🦭

back in tomorrow at 10 am

What do you wear going in op?

What do you wear going in op?

I like a leg suit.
I wear this one from halocline
very comfortable

Plus I wear a bright orange beanie I found at tkmaxx and if it’s windy I wear a zone3 orange neoprene swim hat under the beanie to keep my ears cosy.

I’ve got neoprene gloves & bootees and tried the gloves but I didn’t like the feel of them filling with water, so haven’t worn them again. Probably will when it gets colder. Haven’t worn the bootees yet, cos I like to feel the sand with my feet but might wear them when it gets cold.

I still haven’t got a float (my bad) might put it on a want list for Christmas. Would like a waterproof thermometer and timer too.

Cold sea swim 🥶
