Overseas prescriptions advice

My mum is on an end of life care plan and her sister has come over from Australia to be with her. She only brought a few weeks supply of her blood pressure medication with her and it looks like she’s going to have to extend her stay. Does anyone know how she could go about getting a refill of her Australian prescription here in the UK. Her wife is going to get a letter from her Australian doctor detailing all the meds but can we ask an NHS GP for a private prescription of would she need a private doctor?

With GP she is entitled to free NHS care...(crazy when you think what we would pay but that's the rules). If she goes into probably your mum's practice they should be able to register her as a temporary resident and give her the meds. Used to do this lots when I was working.

There's a reciprocal arrangement with Australia. Any immediate care a Brit needs in Aus is also free.

Thank you, that’s really helpful
