Do you feel bad working from home?

If your role is hybrid do you feel bad if you work from home more days than normal if you are poorly?

Konfuzzled · 22/10/2024 17:30

No. No one in the office wants your germs.

Cloud44 · 22/10/2024 17:33

Other colleagues seem to drag themselves in with anything and everything though!

People going to work ill was quite literally illegal during COVID. I don't see why it should be any different now tbh, there are still the same amount of vulnerable people

DelurkingAJ · 22/10/2024 17:52

No. I’d be horrified if my team came in with a cold and shared it. I haven’t been into the office with a proper cold since before COVID.

Underbudget · 22/10/2024 17:56

We all work from home a lot and are explicitly told not to work at all if we're ill!

AtmosAtmos · 22/10/2024 17:58

Not at all. I can wfh. My manager would not thank me for dragging myself in unless we had a very important face to face meeting which are rare. Even then they might say just miss it and get on with normal work.

She and my colleagues do not want my germs.

Christmastinsel78 · 22/10/2024 18:03

If you go in unwell, you spread it to the rest of the team and risk others going off.

If I'm unwell, but can still work from home, I get told not to and rest by my manager (doesn't stop me logging on though). I work in health and social care.

Girasoli · 22/10/2024 18:50

No, my team don't want my cold germs!
Plus, you probably get more done at home when poorly as you can wrap yourself in a hoodle/have many teas etc.

Cloud44 · 22/10/2024 19:09

How do you know how long to work from home for though because colds these days can linger! What about other things like upset stomach / nausea? I always feel there is a need to be seen feeling in my office.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 22/10/2024 19:13

Upset stomach / nausea is even more reason to work from home. Absolutely nobody wants to catch that from you!

We’re repeatedly told to work from home if we have something infectious.

AtmosAtmos · 22/10/2024 19:24

I think this is more about your particular office culture OP. What would your manager say if you called in saying you had a bad cold and plan to work from home?
Are there important parts of your job that need you in the office?

Oh my manager would absolutely expect me to stay at home with nausea.

Cloud44 · 22/10/2024 19:43

It probably is my office culture - or pressure I put on myself. How long would you stay at home for with nausea if there was no sickness? Because that as well can linger on apparently!

Nausea with no sickness?

It is unusual to feel nauseous very often - if you are often nauseous then I think you need to see a doctor if you haven't already. It is usually nothing but could be something.

Cloud44 · 22/10/2024 19:51

It’s not been often so far (touch wood!) but currently.

LlynTegid · 22/10/2024 19:53

Not one bit.

Being able to work from home for part of the week I think has meant I am under the weather or ill less.

MonsteraMama · 22/10/2024 19:54

Lmao I've worked from home because I couldn't be arsed driving. Why would I feel bad?

MidnightPatrol · 22/10/2024 19:55

No.

But in some experience some people massively take the piss. About 5% of people take 95% of ‘oh I need to work from home as I feel a bit ill’ days.

pointythings · 22/10/2024 20:25

No, but our team doesn't do presenteeism. We don't have a set number of days that we have to be in, the only rule is that we come in if we have an essential face to face meeting.
