the best way to dispose of chewing gum is to swallow it

Honestly, it won't tie up your insides, it will come out the other end unchanged and you won't even notice its departure.

Just swallow the stuff.

Ew. Hate that feeling when you accidentally swallow it. I’ll stick to the bin!

Needanadultgapyear · 22/10/2024 14:00

But it won't be broken down in the sewage system and could potentially contaminate the environment. The best way to dispose of it is in the bin.

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/10/2024 14:05

No, just no. I am a child of the 70's and could NEVER do this

unsync · 22/10/2024 14:20

Please don't do this. It ends up in the sea when the sewers flood. You are polluting the oceans with plastic. (I presume you know you are eating plastic?) If you must chew gum, wrap it and bin it when you are done. I have spent a lot of time this year picking gum from the sea floor. It is revolting.

MissyB1 · 22/10/2024 14:47

Yes it's not about harming your body (you're correct it comes out looking the same as it went in, we don't digest it. But as pps have pointed out it's the harm it does to the environment.

TheBeesKnee · 22/10/2024 14:48

Why would you say something like that?

EngineEngineNumber9 · 22/10/2024 14:50

Or better still, don’t chew chewing gum because it’s disgusting.

I stopped chewing gum completely when I discovered this some years ago now

I don't chew gum, btw, I think it's horrible!

TBH I hadn't thought of what happens to it once it leaves a body, but of course I should have. You're all right, bin it.

I started this thread because a local news item was about a Council haivng to pay huge amounts to get gum off the pavement and I thought "OFGS just bloody swallow it". The trouble is that there often aren't bins around when you want them so stuff seems to end up on the ground.
