Someone has done something that stops certain people in the contacts list from adding her to WhatsApp groups

How do I undo this?

I don't know how to do it so I don't know how to undo it

Please help

I’d just leave it: her choice, surely?

purpleme12 · 22/10/2024 08:53

Really helpful.

Use WhatsApp's Help

Macaroninecklace · 22/10/2024 08:55

Perfectly sensible setting that I have activated myself. If you want her to join a group just send an invitation. You can’t change someone else’s WhatsApp settings!

Or do you mean this person is you, you have done it accidentally and you want to change it for your own account?

Edit - in which case just go to settings, privacy, groups and tick everyone if that’s what you want.

KnottedTwine · 22/10/2024 08:58

Agree that you can't change someone else's settings. You can send people a link to click to join a group rather than automatically adding them though.

9ToGoal · 22/10/2024 08:59

@Macaroninecklace The restricted adding is not something that can be done accidentally. The options are everyone, my contacts or my contacts excluding. Someone deliberately doesn't want OP adding them to groups.

purpleme12 · 22/10/2024 08:59

I don't mean any of the situations people have assumed.
I'm not sure why people are picking this apart.
The only thing I asked for help with was how to do it, nothing else as I couldn't find it.

@9ToGoal thanks
I can't find that particular thing on the help but will have more of a look in a bit

Well obviously I'm doing it with their permission with their phone

to get this straight: you are in a whatsapp group and want to add a person. This person has her settings so you can't do that.

and you want to... override her wishes?

if that is the case: go away and think about what you are doing.

If not: be clearer.

No it's the other way round

The person has stopped certain people in her contacts from adding her to groups

But we want to undo that

OP posts:
ghostbusters · 22/10/2024 09:01

I'm in a few groups. Ones that I admin I can add members. Ones that I'm not admin I can't add members. So it might be the group admins who have changed the settings but you can't do anything to change that I'm afraid.

So helpful

It might be best not to judge when I have not explained the situation at all. Dear me

If they want their contacts to be able to add them, Settings > privacy > groups and select the My contacts option. Nothing else needs changed. Don't select Everyone that's asking for trouble.

@Macaroninecklace @9ToGoal thank you I've found it now with your help 🙂

purpleme12 · 22/10/2024 09:19

Would you like to say what's weird?

OP posts:
pumpkinpam · 22/10/2024 09:22

Why are people being such arses? The op clearly means that she's trying to help someone undo this with their permission. Probably their child or a relative who isn't particularly tech savvy.

I doubt she's going to go around trying to remotely change the privacy preferences of random contacts in her phone 😂
