I'm starting Driver Refresher lessons this week and I am so nervous, has anyone overcome this?

I have a full license but I haven't driven for about 20 years due to moving a lot and living in big cities where public transport made more sense.

We now live in the suburbs and I have bit the bullet and signed up for driving refresher lessons. The first one is this week and I am bricking it.
I'm not going to back out but oh my god the nerves!

Has anyone overcome being a nervous driver?

I haven’t had a car for 10+ years. I have hired one on holiday a few times and drove from the airport to the hotel last night. The anxiety was very unpleasant. Each time it had got better after a little bit of driving but I’m not sure I’ll ever be great at driving now. It’s putting me off actually getting a car. Good luck…
im sure that you will ace it! Let us know how it goes so I can copy any tips.

Thank you so much!
I'm also having doubts on whether I've left it so long now that I'll never really be great at driving.
Frankly, the lesson later this week terrifies me!

But I'm hoping if I keep at it then maybe I'll be an ok (albeit safe) driver.

Hoping to start small just around the neighbourhood and surrounding areas and nothing too intense. Help!

I just wanted to update the thread and say I that I've kept with the refresher lessons and I'm so much more confident with driving and making great progress.

I was really nervous and apprehensive but kept with it and I'm really happy I have.

I still have a way to go but the difference is monumental and I can't wait to be zipping around by myself (even though I may stick some P plates on the car at the start).

I just wanted to reassure anyone who may be in a similar situation as me and who is really nervous about learning how to drive later in life. Stick with it, you'll be so glad you did and the excitement of the freedom once you're ready is so worth it.

I'm already browsing potential little zippy cars I could afford once I'm ready to go out on my own.

Yes! I'm still not completely there but went from heart beating when I thought about driving to driving a long distance to holiday and to know places over the last year.

I did it by planning the route, studying the map, got an automatic car, and just really persevered. You have to work at it and drive drive drive but know yourself too and if driving to a place is going to do more harm than good x
