Help with make up for dd13

CarmellaH · 22/10/2024 07:19

My dd is 13 and her Christmas list consists mostly of make up. She hasn't been specific though, and when I ask her what make up she doesn't really know any brands. She's mentioned e.l.f but other than that says she doesn't know what she wants, just some nice make up.

I've used the same brands for years, but apparently my make up looks too clumpy and is for older people Hmm so I'd love to hear what make up your dd might consider as 'popular' for this age range.

May I suggest a shopping trip together to your nearest big boots or Superdrug. At least to get her looking and thinking about what things she thinks she like.
At 13 I’d be a bit wary of buying anything like that without prior approval! You may well find you’ve spent a lot of money on something that never gets touched. Obviously things like foundation need to be shade matched also!

I wouldn’t spend much for make up for a 13 year old. No 7, Barry M etc. A couple of bits will go a long way.

I'd have a look at Revolution make up from Superdrug, it's not expensive and the packaging looks like it's aimed at young girls.

Maybelline foundation is fab. My daughter uses Maybelline generally - and bits from shein and other companies.

Elf is a good brand - decent price but decent quality too and popular amongst tweens/teens. That’s what I would go for

Petitedress · 22/10/2024 07:52

Does she have spots, redness etc? She could try the Elf concealer and powder. I wore foundation, concealer, powder and mascara at that age. She might want lipgloss.

My DD is 14 and has some elf makeup on her Christmas list, she has:

  • elf halo glow powder and puff
  • elf power grip set and stick duo
  • elf halo glow liquid filter

It doesn't mean a lot to me as I don't really wear makeup. She's very into her makeup, there's some brushes on her list and other bits as well.

Elf is fab, my daughter and I wear it - lots of light mousse like products it's gorgeous. Their sparkly eye shadow gel things are great, halo glow - lip oils all are not too heavy
I'd look in Superdrug as they usually have a stand and then online on the elf page as they'll have special bundles for Christmas

Maybe a tinted moisturiser rather than a foundation and a couple of eyeshadow pallets. I’m not home to check but I’m sure I have a Revolution pallet and it’s cheap but surprisingly good quality, I bought it in an ‘emergency’ (gone away and forgotten my own) and was really impressed with it and the lipstick I bought.

Elf is very popular with her age group and is reasonably priced.

Plouise is quite popular and often has deals on their lip glosses etc. sometimes better deals on TikTok than their website. The packaging is just gorgeous and the make up is good too 😃

Pumpkittenspice · 22/10/2024 09:26

Elf is very good, particularly the power grip primer (the blue one)

TheRutshireWI · 22/10/2024 09:31

Elf or Made by Mitchell are popular here

Moonshine5 · 22/10/2024 11:02

I will get slated now but I think you could keep the makeup to a minimum (1 or 2 items transparent mascara / coloured lip balm) as I believe makeup sexualises children too young and is therefore inappropriate.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 22/10/2024 11:05

P Louise do a great U16 make up session if you can get there (it's Stockport manchester) and then you get 30% off stuff when there too.
Failing that, a trip to a big department store and ask for help at one of the counters. Mac always have teens lurking that I've seen.

I'd say Elf, NYX, Revolution and MUA are your young make up go to's.
