A loud bang looked at and the house across was on fire.

Sorry @CoughyGoLightly , when I charged the front door, whoever was trying to open it dropped the keys and ran like mad. Spent the rest of the night with a chest of drawers across and the front door.

The sound of a huge bale of silage (the big round ones covered in black plastic) rolling down the steep hill behind our house, through the trees in the hedge, smashing the fence, bouncing down two terraces and landing on the glass conservatory roof. I was sitting in there at the time. The very solid frame was distorted, 3 roof panels shattered, 3 windows shattered. It had to be demolished and rebuilt. I was covered in tiny bits of glass but otherwise undamaged.

This was actually a pleasant sound. But freaky.

I was woken at 6am by beautiful singing from a male voice choir. I thought I was hallucinating. I asked DH later on... he hadn't heard as he was asleep.

A week later... the same thing. I was getting a bit concerned now...

A few days later, I found out the cause. A bizarre tradition where the the local craftsmen went around the town before dawn in December to serenade the residents.

Well that sounds lovely, but it also gives me the heebie jeebies

DH with a vomiting bug last weekend. He scream sneezes and scream coughs and scream vomits. My son was sobbing in terror at the sound of it.

OH MY GOSH this has made me laugh. My partner is exactly the same, it scares our child (and me too..) when he's sick 🤣

The sound of all the street plastic and metal recycling bins falling over in a high wind during the night. Someone needs to invent a bin with lids that lock, but release quickly for collection. They have to be out overnight as collection can be as early as 6am.
Bins fall, vomit out their contents which fly everywhere, bins then slide along till they slam into cars or houses and wedge.

Oh god I'd forgotten about Buncefield! Wow, that seems like a whole lifetime ago now.

However, I thought everybody knew that barn owls don't go twit twoo they go eeeeeek! Did you guys not read The Owl Who Was Afraid of The Dark? 😬

Worst sound in our house? One time our pressurised heating system vented itself and gave off the most horrendous mechanical wail - had no idea what it was at the time and thought the sky was falling.

Other than that, me doing a sleep dream scream wail thing 😱

Not in our house, but in a tent nearby when we were camping when a gas canister on their stove exploded. The scream was horrific. Thankfully no serious injuries. Could have been so much worse.

Another was dh lighting a pile of stuff to burn in the back garden. He was there with my dad and our kids and I was indoors. He is known to use flammable liquids to help start them, and it didn't light as well as usual so I think he put more on. Anyway, what sounded like a sonic boom alerted me to something going on and I just remember seeing a wave come out of the bin. How anyone wasn't hurt I will never know. I was furious with him.

Lastly, dh again. This time, trying to get up some floorboards to put in some sound insulation. Couldn't get a particular piece out, I think it was a board of plywood, so he decided to cut it with an angle grinder. It was very noisy and then all of a sudden there was a lot of noise all at the same time, and he came charging down the stairs to switch off the water. He'd cut through the pipe from the boiler to the water tank, missing a gas pipe by millimetres! The noise was him throwing the angle grinder down I think while it was still slowing down and him coming down the stairs.

My ds has done the sudocreme thing too. So much Fairy washing up liquid to wash it off...
