Does anyone else's baby go distraught when you use nasal aspirator on them ?

Hello I have a 9 month old baby DD, she has come down with a very bad cold and very very blocked nose , I've tried baby Vicks and other things to help her but nothing works other than the nasal aspirator which gently sucks out the mucous from the nose, I'm BF still, and when she latches on she gives up because she can't BF because of the blocked nose, I can tell it's very uncomfortable for her , so I use the aspirator.
But every time I use it she screams like she's being murdered 😱, it's harrowing and feel like I'm being evil so I stop using it on her. Does it hurt babies ? Has anyone else had this ? It's the only thing that works , to say she hates it is an understatement 🤦 I'm sure my neighbours will call the police because it sounds horrendous, I get maybe 10 seconds using it on her then I have to stop because she sounds like something out of the excorsist.

Yeah one of mine hated it, made her cry so much it just made more snot so I didn't bother.

Yeah, mine recognised it from when they were tiny and used to cry and move their head around. But they really work for blocked noses and dc were aways fine and happy once over. I view them like eyedrops, a few seconds of unpleasantness and then better!

A better thread would be “anyone’s baby cope with one”. I’ve yet to meet a baby who tolerates it.

Three kids and I never used one of these once! I can't imagine they'd love it!

Having something pushed up your nose is a horrible, horrible sensation. A fellow student tried to put a naso-gastric tube down by nose during training and I couldn't tolerate it. And that's me understanding what's going on.

Try orbas oil or a steamy atmosphere - take her in the shower with you.

I think it's normal? Both mine hated it and screamed the house down too. Sometimes took both of us to hold in order to do it. Felt like we were torturing them. Was told by someone.. doctor maybe? to do a saline spray 10 mins before using the aspirator. They also hate that. I used to do it when they were trying to latch on with their snotty little faces, then they were at least a bit distracted. Also wafted adult Vicks around their nostrils when feeding. Colds are awful!

Also never used one I really don't see the point new fangled nonsense

I used to suck and spit - definitely not my favourite parenting moment. It might give you better control over the amount of pressure though.

Try a warm wet wipe and cotton bud. The baby is right to hate it, it’s horrible. Also a humidifier with plug in vapour thing
