Is your kitchen clean and tidy before you go to bed?

My kitchen is a disaster zone but I will tidy it up and load the dishwasher before bed tonight. I could leave it till the morning but I wouldn’t feel right. Are you the same?!

I’ve learnt that it has to be. If the kitchen is tidy then clearing away after breakfast takes 5 mins. If I add the dinner stuff to the breakfast stuff then somehow it takes 30 plus minutes to tidy it all up. Kitchen maths. I don’t have time the next day and it all backs up.

Yes, never go to bed on an argument or a messy kitchen.

CremeEggThief · 20/10/2024 21:36

Always. At worst, there would be a mug and teaspoon by the sink.

I can’t sit down in the evenings until it’s done! It would drive me nuts. Everything away from dinner, dishwasher on, toys away, surfaces and sink cleaned. Also lounge back in order before going to bed.

My DH is the total opposite, he could relax in a tip! He’s very much a ‘do that tomorrow’ person. My argument is you never know what will be like! I need a clean slate every morning to walk downstairs to.

Tidy kitchen..I clean as I go when cooking and just plate's, cutlery to wash up

I don’t understand this. What about the pots you dish up from? Do you wash them up before you eat?

we just had a dish cooked in the oven in a crock pot, served with pasta (so a pan on the stove). Do you wash the casserole and the pasta pan up before you eat so there’s only plates and cutlery afterwards?

and fwiw I washed it all up just now.

Edited

Yes I wash pans immediately after plating up,it takes no time at all and food is still piping hot.

Nope. I have too much on my plate, and this weekend I prioritised finishing my son's halloween costume and totally emptying and cleaning the laundry over my normal weekly kitchen clean.

During the week I do only the very bare minimum due to commute/kids/job - dishwasher done every couple of days, no food left out, but there'll be crumbs, and stuff out on the sides.

ihaveliterallynoidea · 21/10/2024 16:44

Kind of.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/10/2024 16:46

Pretty much. It is unless one of the adult dc has fucked it up again.

Thatsmyjob · 21/10/2024 16:46

Rarely.

Always.

One of us will clean down the sides and load the dishwasher after dinner, hoover the floor etc and have a general clean and tidy. Sometimes when I go to bed there is an overflow of stuff that doesn’t fit in the dishwasher. That sits in the sink overnight and gets dealt with in the morning.
I hate walking into a messy kitchen, one with crumbs on the floors and sides, food not put away, dirty dishes on the side etc, we’ve done it before when being lazy and it’s just a shit way to start the next day so we don’t do it now.
i unload the dishwasher and reload anything that might need to still go in the next morning when I’m making ds his breakfast.
I’m not one of these ‘oh I can’t sit down until everything is done’ people; I sit down a lot 😂 but a clean and tidy kitchen starts the day off right at least.

Nope (wish this was a poll though).
