Is your kitchen clean and tidy before you go to bed?

My kitchen is a disaster zone but I will tidy it up and load the dishwasher before bed tonight. I could leave it till the morning but I wouldn’t feel right. Are you the same?!

Yes, I always leave it tidy.
Sometimes i come down and find DS has made a pizza whilst I was asleep and left the knife and cutting board in the sink, which infuriates me.

weegiemum · 20/10/2024 19:21

I always try as when I get up in the morning I'm tired and it looks so bad!

ByMerryKoala · 20/10/2024 19:22

Yeah, the kitchen is clean and tidy when I go to bed. Sometimes there's an upturned glass in the sink but nothing that would get in the way for the morning.

StillAtTheRestaurant · 20/10/2024 19:22

Ha, nope! As long as there's no food left out, I'm quite happy to turn off the light and deal with the mess in the morning!

Grepes · 20/10/2024 19:24

I don’t, I cook and plate up and that’s me done. Fortunately I have a magic fairy who cleans up and loads the dishwasher whilst I get ready for bed. He then unloads the dishwasher in the morning whilst making coffees to bring up to bed. I highly recommend a cleaning/coffee making fairy!

DaisyChain505 · 20/10/2024 19:26

My kitchen is re tidied after every use.

everything washed up, sides and hob wiped down.

its a lot less of a daunting task than facing a kitchen that looks like a bomb went off at the end of the day.

babasaclover · 20/10/2024 19:27

I like to keep it tidy dishwasher in before bed. Our hob is gas and really hard to clean. Anyone got a really good easy clean gas hob??

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 20/10/2024 19:29

No.
I absolutely refuse to do it.

DH loads the dishwasher every morning.
well I say loads it, he will put the stuff ABOVE the fucking thing into the dishwasher and miss the rest of the dishes everywhere else in the kitchen.
He doesn’t clean a single surface or the hob top.

It makes me want to be violent.

BUT it’s his fucking job so I move every dish to the vicinity of the dishwasher so it all gets loaded.
I wake up every morning to a kitchen full of filthy dishes and a dirty kitchen.
I refuse to do it. Even though it drives me demented. He doesn’t seem to care or notice.

ZwarteZwaan · 20/10/2024 19:29

Yes but only as I cannot relax in the evening if it’s a mess. I hate getting up to a mess too. It would have to be a good reason for it to be left.

AutumnLeaves24 · 20/10/2024 19:30

Most nights. I like to be kind to my future self, but current self sometimes decides future self can get stuffed 😂😂

Heronatemygoldfish · 20/10/2024 19:30

Ha ha ha ha ha. I have a teenager who comes down in the night and makes himself food. He's not bad at clearing up (as he's had a few lectures) but never what I'd call clean

Iggertyziggerty · 20/10/2024 19:30

Yes! It's the gift I give to tomorrow's me!!

StarSlinger · 20/10/2024 19:34

DP always clears up after dinner, loads the dishwasher etc. So the kitchen is mostly tidy except for the odd glass or mug.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 20/10/2024 19:35

There might be a cup or two in the sink and some pots on the draining board, but there aren't any crumbs or spills or anything.

ChaToilLeam · 20/10/2024 19:37

I get it as tidy as possible, even if I’m tired; becaus waking up to a midden of a kitchen is just a rubbish way to start the day.

AGreatUsername · 20/10/2024 19:38

Kitchen is always cleaned and tidied before bed. Our dishwasher goes on after tea, but more builds up during the evening (2 adults, 3 teens 1 child). So every morning I get up, do the dishwasher, clean the tops (again, teens and their midnight smoothies and cereal 🙄), sweep the floor, sort the litter and cat food.

Bigredcombine · 20/10/2024 19:45

I hit a wall in the evening and go straight to be. DH potters about the place a tidies up the kitchen, checks the doors etc before bed. Conversely - I'm up at the crack of dawn and sorting the kids breakfasts while he's really sluggish in the morning.

MumChp · 20/10/2024 19:45

Yes. Always.

Pumpkittenspice · 20/10/2024 19:46

Yes! But I’m sensitive to food scents, so I’ll make sure the kitchen is clean before going to bed. I don’t mind if the rest of the house is untidy though

MyEarringsAreGreen · 20/10/2024 19:47

All tidy after dinner, so yes I agree! Couldn't stand getting up to a messy kitchen.

ThePoshUns · 20/10/2024 19:48

Yes, everything away and surfaces wiped down

Whatanidiot123 · 20/10/2024 19:50

Always. Would have to be extremely unwell to leave a mess in the kitchen or indeed anywhere in the house before going to bed. Might make an exception for a party but I’d probably still clean before bed.

stanleypops66 · 20/10/2024 19:50

The worktops are cleaned, but dishes will sometimes be stacked in the sink instead of the dishwasher. Tbh life's too short. It can be done in the morning.

user1471538283 · 20/10/2024 19:54

Yes. There's usually a cup but I couldn't face the morning knowing there were dishes sitting around. I like to be able to go to the cupboard knowing there is clean stuff ready.

I've always been like this but when my DS was tiny and I was doing everything except the dishes my ex would just leave them and I don't think it helped with my mental health.

MightSoundCrassButItsFactual · 20/10/2024 19:54

yes, i have books and nicknacks on some kitchen surfaces and cooking space for as much we need with my husband. Every night dishes, cooking pots are washed, put to dry, I scrub just with a scara and water the metal bits and very visible food splashes. We keep the floor constantly clean by sweeping pretty much 3 times a day and if obvious stain, I wipe it with a damp cloth by hand on my knees.

Nothing of that is hard or worrisome for me, because I am required to prepare a number of hotel rooms for bookings daily

is my whole home completely pristine and a showcase? No, because it is my home and it is just as I want it and I have the clothes, books, nick nacks and other things as I want them and where I want them but bath, sinks, toilet, tiles, floors and metal surfaces are usually cleaned the minute they get dirty
