Fear of public loos

Does anyone else have an irrational fear of using public loos for anything other than a quick wee? I seriously can’t remember the last number 2 that took place anywhere other than the comfort of my own home or hotel. Well in December me and DH are flying from London to Perth direct, yes that’s 18 hours non stop in the air. And do you know what I’m most nervous and afraid off….. The fact that I’ll have to use the plane loo for a shite lol. DH finds it hilarious 🤦‍♀️. The worst part is that the people in the seats near the loos can see when you go in and know exactly how long you were in there so if you’re longer than a minute or two they know exactly what you’re doing in there which is embarrassing.

I have IBS. I have a fear of not being able to find a toilet in time.

I should think, on a long haul flight, most of the passengers will be needing a shite at some point! And I've never taken note of anyone going into the loo or how long they've been either! I'm with @boulevardofbrokendreamss I'd be more worried about not being able to get to the loo! At least there's one there. And let's face it, none of those passengers give a shit (pardon the pun!!!) and you're not going to see them again! Go with the flow!

ShowerOfShites · 20/10/2024 12:04

Why is having a shit on the plane embarrassing?

It's a completely natural bodily function.

Topseyt123 · 20/10/2024 12:07

Why is it embarrassing? Do you think that no other plane passengers ever take it shit?

Nobody cares really. What makes you think that others are keeping tabs on how often their fellow passengers use the toilet and how long for? They aren't. They're much more likely to be watching their screens/phones or reading. Or sleeping.

I do. I can't cope with loos full stop, and the smell of most public loos makes me wretch. I have to be somewhere like a posh pub or restaurant or a shop like Fortnums before I can use a loo and I'd never poo in an alien loo. An ex boyfriend of mine would be amazed that I could spend 4 days in his house every other weekend and not poo. Admittedly it would be the first thing I did after walking through my own front door but I just couldn't have relaxed enough to do it elsewhere. I wish I wasn't like this but I am!

People sitting near the toilets are not paying this much attention to people going there.

If I feel the need to go, I go, regardless of the toilet.

Ha ha yes, you're normal!!! Well, normal in that lots of people are like you.

I have had this convo before and there does seem to be a split between public shiters and non.

I am in the non group with you. I would only ever shite in a public loo if my need to go was such that it was going to wreck my day. Luckily i am very regular and always go on first waking. So i never need once i have left my house or hotel room.

I am fine going in a hotel en suite room. The situation where i would never go is in public loos where there is a queue.

Last night, for eg, i am at the theatre during the interval. Huge queue at the ladies and only 4 toilets.

Someone goes in one of the loos and is clearly having very smelly diarrhoea! I mean, cannot be helped but if i had needed diarrhoea in that situation, i would have gone during the performance when the loos would have been empty.

It is just a personal thing. And if the flush fails, you just do not want someone seeing your shite!

OP - take some immodium before your flight. Save your fears!!! It will stop your bowel for 24hrs.

MoonWoman69 · 20/10/2024 16:33

If you're bothered about the smell, buy some Poo Pourri to spray down the loo before you go and after you've been.
