Weirdest reason you’ve finished with someone

So I promise I don’t exclusively date weirdos! But these stick out in my mind…

This is going back a good few years now, but I dated someone who couldn’t cope with me wearing a coat. Every time we went out it was, “So you’ve brought your coat again have you? We’ve got to lug that thing about with us all night, have we?” As if it was Princess Diana’s bloody bridal train. Once he was virtually begging me to wear “one of his big jumpers” instead. I kept asking why he had such a problem with me carrying a coat and he said, “You look really awkward!” What’s awkward about a coat?!

Another one didn’t understand microwaves. Or, more accurately, why you would own one. I’d been for dinner at his place when the phone rang and it turned out to be urgent. He came back and apologised for keeping me waiting for dinner; I said “No problem; we can just stick it in the microwave”. He looked utterly bewildered and kept repeating “Microwave?”, as if he’d never heard of the concept.

Okay, I thought, he hasn’t got one - but he just seemed completely confused at the idea anyone would. He was saying, “But what would I use it for?”, as if I’d suggested he should buy a unicorn. I said, “Well, reheating food! And things like scrambled egg, baked beans…” He just looked at me in total confusion, saying, “But I’d use a pan. I’d warm the food in the oven. Why would I have a microwave?” It was just too weird. I couldn’t ever feel aroused by him again.

He didn't think I should put salt on my food.

buffyfaithspike · 20/10/2024 02:08

He was totally silent in bed

Fleasies · 20/10/2024 02:17

On our second date at quite a smart restaurant, he wore a plain white T-shirt that was badly mis-shapen after washing so it stuck out like a triangular sail at the back - and he hadn’t ironed it.

Lavenderandbrown · 20/10/2024 02:56

He had bunions and was eating Doritos. He put his white socks up on the ottoman and I thought nope to those bunions and Doritos.

When I was a teenager I went out with someone a few times who got hit in front of me by another boy in his year. The fact that he just took it and never hit back really put me off him (awful of me really) I felt less bad when he started dating younger girls, so I was a year younger his next gf was two years younger than me. So 13/14 to his 17, seemed really gross.

Just had an epiphany that every other person Iv dated either dumped me or it was a joint decision . Either I've been lucky or not that picky!

Oh my god the banjo was worse than the y fronts

Only on Mumsnet would a sentence like that make perfect sense! 🤣

Dovecare · 20/10/2024 05:55

I regularly went off boys for wearing the wrong type of shoes.

SinnerBoy · 20/10/2024 06:28

When I was younger, because he shortened by name.

Quite right, Birt, quite right!

bifurCAT · 20/10/2024 06:31

Bought me a Joey/Chandler style bracelet. One of those huge 'ghetto', thick, heavy things. I don't wear jewellery and definitely would never wear anything remotely along those lines.

Even had it engraved and insisted I wore it!

It was a Rodney bracelet first 😉

TheSproutOfWrath · 20/10/2024 06:40

He had a football scarf over the bed of the rival team of the team I supported.

Ah, that's true. But considering half this generation don't even know who Britney is, I thought I'd err on something slightly more recent :)

SlowMotionWankVideo · 20/10/2024 06:42

Had to nc for this because I've told.everyone irl 😁 unsurprisingly, it was available.

He sent me a slow.motion wank video.

He lived in the middle of nowhere and was naked in a field when he filmed it. From start to the absolute finish.

In slow motion 🤢

Errrrmmm...

SoosieM · 20/10/2024 07:04

His hair was longer than mine and I just couldn't get over it. He was a lovely guy and we had shared interests and a lot to talk about, I really wanted it to work and was hoping I would get over the hair. But we had a rock climbing date and the sight of his ponytail flapping in the wind as he claimed the wall gave me the major ick.

Banjo? Yes, that was certainly a major faux pas.
I am pretty sure had he serenaded you with a ukulele you would still be together.

I wish I hadn't wtitten my previous post. Now I am stuck with an image of a naked George Formby playing the ukulele.

(He's not naked in this video, by the way.)

I agree with him about the microwave - I do have one. But I’d definitely not use one for heating baked beans or scrambled egg. Much better in a pan.

It wasn’t the lack of a microwave that I found weird - it was his reaction to the idea of one. It was honestly utter bewilderment at the very idea someone would own such a thing. It just made him sound so odd!

God I'm wondering if the microwave guy is my dad! He cannot understand a situation where one is required and you can't use the oven. He takes life at his own pace and doesn't understand anyone having to rush. He is really odd!

Our first time DTD, much dry/boring thrusting, then out of no where, he got off the bed, knelt on his knees - grabbed some dirty balled up socks from the floor and wanked into them. All while making eye contact and grunting like it was an incredibly sexy thing for me to witness.

When gently questioned afterwards he admitted he thought it was something he thought I’d enjoy as he ex GF always said she loved it…

That's absolutely terrible!

Thisbastardcomputer · 20/10/2024 09:07

He wore clogs, quite good looking and in the navy, which meant I only saw him now and again.

Gingerkittykat · 21/10/2024 00:36

He didn't like my cat. I have no regrets.

Oh Jesus f Christ 🤣🤣 I got the ick so bad from reading that that I swear it just sealed itself shut for eternity

MrsSunshine2b · 21/10/2024 00:52

I had a range of serious and unserious reasons for breaking up with one guy.

The first was that when I met him I'd just had my heart broken and I wasn't looking for something serious, which I was very clear about, and within a few months he was talking about marriage and babies, so I knew we weren't on the same page.

The second was he got a bit weird and jealous if I didn't message him back straight away or if I spent time with another guy.

The third "weird" reason was he was a really fussy eater, especially about vegetables. I made some veggie chilli on one occasion and served it to him, he ate two helpings and said it was delicious and then on a later occasion said he would never eat mushrooms. I told him that the chilli he ate had been full of mushrooms and he got really mad that I "tricked" him into eating mushrooms.

The final reason, or rather the point I got to when I broke it off, was when I found out due to a weird glitch in inheritance law (his family were from all different countries) he was actually a multi-millionaire. I felt like I could tell him I'd worked out that all this money that was sat in an account (and believed to belong to a relative who was already loaded) was actually his, that would cheer him up enough that he wouldn't mind so much when I broke up with him.

So, the family legend goes, I dumped him because he wouldn't eat mushrooms and was very rich.

He tasted like sweetcorn 🤢
