My parents have been clearing out their loft so keep giving me old things of mine.

No toys or anything, just random school work and the like. Right now there are two certificates from a regional (then national) maths competition I was in at high school sitting on my coffee table as that's been the most recent thing I've been given. My old Spanish dictionary from school and a couple of books I owned back then are in one of my bookcases too.

I also have a set of mugs a neighbour gave me for my 18th birthday. They're all still going strong and they're my favourite mugs (I'm in my 40s now).

A 1920's Armand Marseille (china head) doll. My mother's.
A Lloyd Loom chair that was bought for her bedroom when she was a child - early 20's, and a Loyd Loom linen basket that was in our bathroom from the 60's, don't know how long it was owned before that.

My father's old school tie - 1930's

A colander - 60's at least
A crystal trifle bowl - well that's what my Mother always made / put a trifle in, also 60's at least

My first teddy bear, early early 60's bought for me the very afternoon they brought me home. Father returned to work for the afternoon and went to buy it, and mother was at home with me.

Some Enid blyton books
my Snoopy dog
two other teddies

I also have my Snoopy, given to me the day after I was born.

A very heavy, solid mahogany chest of drawers that I think belonged to my paternal grandmother.

The Ercol chairs that were in my front room growing up - now used as every day chairs by my family.

Lots of books.

The yellow colander my mum used in the kitchen at home - must be from the 70s. Still going strong. Also a plastic spaghetti jar, again from the 70s.

A couple of mugs that have survived the decades! And some cutlery.

Love this thread.

My first thought was our Lloyd Loom linen basket! It was from my Granny’s house but no idea when she would have bought it. I would guess 1930/1940’s.
Big Ted I got for my first Christmas so 55 years old.
My wicker rocking chair from early 1980’s
A Radio One mug from a roadshow also early 1980’s ..still in use.
A beautiful parasol my Granny brought me back from Japan early 1970’s. Very sun faded unfortunately. I would love to take it to the Repair Shop.

Ooh forgot to add, the crystal dessert bowl that was a wedding present for my grandparents who got married in the 1930s.

And the big rug that lay across the floor of our sitting room at home - now lies across the floor of my sitting room. It's worn in places but I love it and it makes the room cosy.

Teachymummy · 20/10/2024 00:36

What a lovely thread 🙂 we have my dad's childhood chest of drawers in my children's room.

A favourite book of mine from when I was a child that I read to my children.

My children all slept in the crib my husband slept in as a baby.

Oh and a kids duvet cover 😊

Boobygravy · 20/10/2024 04:34

A Jones treadle sewing machine, it was great grans, then grans, mums and now mine.
i remember dad collecting it from gran’s when I was small, he had to bring it down a steep staircase.
We all played with it as dc making the treadle go as fast as possible.

I have some of my childhood toys in the loft. Things we use every day though, are my mum' stainless steel saucepans, that my mum left behind when she moved, 20+ years ago, and my PiL's rice cooker, from when they ran their restaurant 30+ years ago.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/10/2024 04:45

Cuddly monkey from my childhood. My dad’s PhD thesis. A truly terrible pair of napkins rings from when we cleared out my mums house, similar to the one below. I don’t use them but can’t throw them out, lol.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 20/10/2024 05:52

I have the Good Housekeeping recipe book, and still use it. It wasn't in my childhood home, I bought it over 40 years ago!

I have a robin Christmas tree decoration that I remember on our tree when I was tiny, so that's probably over 60 years old. And a copy of What Katy Did that was my Mum's, so that's about 75 years old.

Squirrelsnut · 20/10/2024 06:23

My mum's dressmaking scissors. I actually bought them for her about 35 years ago.
A glass trinket box with a cat painted on it.

Elleherd · 20/10/2024 06:33

Nothing but myself. I think it's part of why I hang on to family clutter now.

scalt · 20/10/2024 07:40

Lots of books, including one or two hardback Famous Five ones which belonged to my parents, with the original illustrations.
My childhood maroon scarf, which prevented me from winning at "pin the tail". I remember thinking (aged 5) how unfair it was that I was blindfolded and couldn't see!

MrsPostmanPat · 20/10/2024 07:40

The only thing I have is a very old fashioned 'water bottle'. It's ceramic and belonged to my grandmother, then my dad, then me. It's used as a door stop!

DustyLee123 · 20/10/2024 07:41

I’ve got a double bed sized blanket that’s older than me. And several Christmas tree decorations.

2Old2Tango · 20/10/2024 07:43

Just my toy bear, which my grandad gave me when I was born. It's 60 years old and I've had to make it a 'second skin' as it was so threadbare.

TeenToTwenties · 20/10/2024 07:46

The radio in my kitchen was a Christmas present in 1983.

flummingbird · 20/10/2024 07:49

I have a steak knife set that mum says she got in Littlewoods in the 70s, they're great and still the best I have for cutting meat

IBlameTheDog · 20/10/2024 08:03

My teddy bear. He was a christening present over 50 years ago 🥰

Seymour5 · 20/10/2024 08:51

A bookcase, fire screen, wooden tea caddy and candlesticks in the room where I’m sitting. These came from my parents house, they were married in 1923. Also a sepia studio photo of my dad as a small boy, pre WW1. As an only, I’ve too many things to list. I’ve passed some stuff on to the DC, a bit less for them to sort out when the time comes.

Catsmere · 20/10/2024 09:56

My mum's teddy bear, who has been lying around in every home she and I have lived in for nearly ninety years (don't know how old she was when she got him).

PomegranateKernals · 20/10/2024 10:00

A lacy table cloth from the 40's and a small shelving thing my brother made at school in about 1976.
