Please can you talk to me about Marian Keyes?

I am half way through my first Marian Keyes novel courtesy of the freebies on Audible. She is not an author I have considered before, but I am loving it. I wonder if any one would like to discuss Brightest Star in the Sky. I don’t mind spoilers. In particular, did you have a favourite character?

I love her but the latest one about Anna has got too many characters, its just mega confusing

LuckySantangelo35 · 18/10/2024 20:55

I really liked Rachel’s Holiday….is the sequel Again, Rachel worth bothering with?

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 18/10/2024 20:55

I love the Walsh sisters series - in particular Rachel’s holiday, I’d say I’ve read it 20 times, really spoke to me at a certain time. I think she’s lovely and really funny. i don’t love her narration tbh so haven’t listened to her on audible.

Rachel's Holiday is great and really funny. I also really enjoyed Last Chance Saloon.

LittleMachine · 18/10/2024 21:19

I've read them all and loved them all except The Brightest Star and Grown Ups, which were only ok.
The Break is seriously underrated, nobody ever mentions it and it's SO good.

Cherryana · 18/10/2024 21:25

I love her. I have read so many of her books. She comes across so wonderfully. I used to listen to her on a podcast - does anyone remember it? Is it still
going?

Whaleandsnail6 · 18/10/2024 21:30

I loved the Walsh sister series. Read them years ago and then kind of forgot about Marian Keyes until I recently bought one on kindle for 99p that I really enjoyed. Cant think what it was called but it was about a big, extended family who went away together.

Livelaughlurgy · 18/10/2024 21:40

The Brightest star in the sky has such a happy place in my heart, I am grateful every day a large block of ice doesn't fall from
the sky.

I will never be over the descriptions in last chance saloon when he takes her to the Man Utd match and she buys the blue leather jacket? And all the matching underwear.

I love them all. I cried so much on Anna's first book. And the obsession with how long it took to get to the holiday house in charming man.

I recently read Grown ups and loved that too.

That's grown ups- it's going to be a tv show.

I prefer Cecilia ahearn

I have read some of Marian Keyes books and enjoyed them, but there are often too many characters and my small brain gets overwhelmed :)

ijustneedaminute24 · 18/10/2024 22:15

I love her books but have a rubbish memory so can't remember the plot in most of them sadly.

Watermelon is a great place to start before reading the Walsh family books. I liked the break but it took me a while to get into it.

I haven’t really enjoyed anything after Sushi for Beginners

recently read Watermelon again and enjoyed it

Scutterbug · 18/10/2024 22:31

Anybody out there and The other side of the story are both books I’ve loved.

Exactly this re the description of what she wears, what she buys, getting ready for the date! Perfection.

Ooh yes The Break is terrific.

Pancakeflipper · 18/10/2024 22:40

I like her.
Not liked any books since Lucy O'Sullivan is getting married.
I keep trying... bit not hitting my enjoyment level.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2024 22:42

I liked Anybody Out There

WhiskersPete · 18/10/2024 22:44

I loved Rachel's Holiday, Again Rachel and Grownups so I thought I'd love Anybody Out There but I couldn't get on with it and gave up.

Magnalux · 18/10/2024 22:44

I’ve read all her books, the brightest star in the sky is my least favourite ., Rachel’s holiday is my favourite book of all time

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 18/10/2024 22:45

She's my holiday go to author. Easy read and I like Marian Keyes' own story.

Rachel is my favourite.

Switcher · 18/10/2024 22:47

I used to love her but feel like she's lost her mojo.

deeahgwitch · 18/10/2024 23:05

I read her earlier stuff, it didn't appeal to me.
But I think she seems a lovely person, having listened to her being interviewed.
I went to a podiatrist she recommended some years back. Dublin is small Smile

BuzzieLittleBee · 18/10/2024 23:07

I really enjoy reading her books, but I can't remember them afterwards. That's not a slur on the books, I just don't commit them or their plots to memory. It means I can read them again and still enjoy them!

I do, however, remember blubbing my way through the middle of Again, Rachel. Even though you could see the plot coming, it still got me. I was on a long run, listening to the audio book, and had to stop in the middle of a field of corn on the cob to compose myself.
