Why are you awake?

It's nearly 4 and I'm wide awake. I have slept a bit but awake now.
I have a professional exam tomorrow afternoon so am shitting myself and worrying about failing it. I hate exams.
So why are you awake?

Dh's bastard snoring woke me up. Also I was having a dream where I was getting very cross so actually glad I woke up, I didn't realise dreaming could be so stressful!
He's stopped snoring but I can't seem to settle. Plus I've got an ECG monitor strapped to me and it's not compatible with my usual sleeping positions so can't get comfy.

Good luck with your exam @Stressedgiraffe Flowers

Pregnancy insomnia. I have insomnia anyway but it’s really ramped up, as well as restless legs which make it hard to sleep. Have had 3/4 hours max every night this weeek. Also not helped by being really wound up by a colleague and being worried that I might be having a miscarriage (8 weeks, sickness and tender breasts may have vanished and stomach hurts, but I could be imagining it).

I’m wide awake, lying in a bed in a hospice, while my DSis slowly slips away from stage 4 ovarian cancer. Two weeks ago she walked into their local hospital for a biopsy to determine which chemo may help stabilise her. A weeks ago she was put on end of life pathway and transferred to a lovely hospice. My other DSis and I have been travelling down to help give my poor BIL some respite.
Haven’t slept much but will catch up when I return home.
She has resisted opioids until last night when the pain became too much and has just had another dose.
She had stabilised and we saw a real improvement at the weekend but I suspect it was just one of the natural stages of terminal disease.
She’s just had another dose, ostensibly to suppress her cough, the result of multiple lesions on her lungs.
The lesions on her brain are insidiously causing confusion and loss of cognition. It is a cruel disease but one we are familiar with. Our mum died of cancer of the colon 28yrs ago and the anniversary is the end of this month. It also coincides with BIL birthday and their 20th wedding anniversary.
Part of me hopes she dies sooner rather than later, knowing what is coming next is no comfort.

My husband has a sinus infection.

Stressedgiraffe · 18/10/2024 05:11

@Angrymum22 I'm so sorry, cancer is a bastard.

Myself and dh having problems plus trying to find a job. Exhausted but mn is good company!

LBFseBrom · 18/10/2024 05:13

I woke for a wee and can't yet get back to sleep (I am 74). It's a pain. I am sorry you are worried about your exam. If you are not asleep again yet, try to do something to relax you, have a little food and drink. Get yourself ready slowly. The time will pass quickly and you will be fine. Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

Teddybear120 · 18/10/2024 05:17

I think we have the start of the 4 month sleep regression but she is only just 3 months so who knows. So my beautiful 6 hour stretches are now every 1-2 hours.

sorry about your sister @Angrymum22 cancer is a bastard.

Good luck for your exam @Stressedgiraffe will keep fingers crossed for you.

Purpleroseofbiro · 18/10/2024 05:25

Woke up with a migraine so came downstairs to take medication and am currently sitting with a hot water bottle on my head till it eases off a bit more and I can go back to bed.

MsJacksonIfYoureNasty · 18/10/2024 05:37

I’m taking my kittens to be spayed and microchipped first thing. They are hungry and were pawing at the door so I got up with them for cuddles.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 18/10/2024 05:37

So sorry @Angrymum22, that’s so sad. It’s very hard, having to say goodbye to a sibling😢

quixote9 · 18/10/2024 05:41

(I'm up because I'm in New Zealand 😝)

Although it's getting on toward waking up times in the UK too.

To all of you with heavy burdens, I wish they could melt away. And that cyber💐could help.

Fruhstuck · 18/10/2024 05:43

My shoulder hurts whatever position I lie in. But I can’t quite be bothered to get up and find some paracetamol.

CalicoPusscat · 18/10/2024 05:44

I slept on my friend's sofa last night as he had a health scare (peeing blood) and woke up just now looking like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. So a bit disorientated and need a cup of tea. Doctors at 10am. Took me a minute to figure out where I was

Justkeepsmilingx · 18/10/2024 05:53

So sorry for all of you awake for such sad or worrying issues.
Mine is a mixture of a snoring dh and worries about missing the start of our journey on holiday…..hopefully for some sun !

SagittariusUprising · 18/10/2024 05:58

@Angrymum22 I’m sorry about your sister. @Stressedgiraffe good luck in your exams.

I’ve been up since 3. Why? Two words: my children.

Wingingit11 · 18/10/2024 05:59

I’ve been awake for hours but not unusual and I think Peri. However, @Angrymum22’s post really brings home what a privilege aging is. I am so sorry not everyone has that privilege and hope those of you with difficult days ahead that bring you here accept a virtual unmumsnetty hug from this complete stranger x

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 18/10/2024 06:09

I'm getting a cold so woke up early feeling rough.

Heavier · 18/10/2024 07:03

Good luck op. You’ve revised all you can so go do your best.

I was awake in the middle of the night but didn’t spot this chat. I’ve crammed my days too much for the next couple of days and ironically it’s a really bad time not to sleep (but there’s never really a good time I suppose). I did manage to get to sleep again after about an hour.

Dpresst · 18/10/2024 07:08

I’m awake because my family and I are being evicted on a s21. We have no where else to go and keep getting turned down for other properties because we can’t get a guarantor for a new tenancy. So many landlords won’t accept guarantor companies. I feel sick and anxious. Our local council won’t help until a bailiff is at the door and even then we could be sent anywhere and given a hotel or bedsit to live in. We work full time and always pay our rent on time and in full. No one will take us on. I’m at my wits end.

SweetPeaPods · 18/10/2024 04:27

@itsgettingweird amazing commitment! Maybe my Sat mornings on the side of a cold wet football pitch aren't as bad as I thought!

I don't know. We may have 4 4 am alarms and a Saturday 6am but at least it's warm and dry poolside 😂

itsgettingweird · 18/10/2024 07:42

Angry mum** Flowers it's shit. And it's a cruel disease. My mum died of cancer 2 years ago.

So sorry. Have you tried Ctizens Advice or, even better, Shelter for advice?

Stressedgiraffe · 18/10/2024 15:19

Well I passed my exam but only got 84% so am kicking myself. I'm hoping everything will be OK but feeling a bit down.

Hope everyone is not feeling too bad on lack of sleep
