I rescued a hedgehog today!

I was walking home from visiting a friend and found him asleep on the side of a road (fortunately a cul-de-sac) close to my house. I managed to get home and find a shoe box. Brought him home, managed to speak to someone at a local rescue who confirmed that at 177g, he was too small to survive on his own. I fed him and then someone local offered to take him and get him to the rescue when they can have him. She has treated his fleas and removed his ticks.
He was tiny and super cute 🦔😍 I managed to get some photos. DD (11) loved him. Shared just because I know lots of MNetters love hedgehogs. You can go on this website: Hedgehog siting to report any sightings and learn more about helping hedgehogs and what to do if one looks ill or to establish if they need help.

Well done! What a cutie - 177g is about the weight of a container of yoghurt! 😊

Aww, what a lucky hedgehog 🦔
So kind of you to take the time to rescue this little one. I bet he or she felt a lot better after having been treated for fleas and ticks.
Thank you for sharing your experience and the photos!
I've never seen a hedgehog myself, they're very cute aren't they.

Ah he's a sweetheart! I saw one out in the open the other day, unusually, out in the countryside by a field edge. I did wonder if I should have done the same.

Well done op.
Lovely heartwarming tale.

My dog found one on a December night, near my parents' house. My dad took him in and weighed him, very underweight; then put him in a box in the garage. They fed him cat food and worms from the garden, he gained weight over a few months and they were thrilled.

Sadly, one morning, dad found him expired. But don't be put off!

Yoghurt is a very cute name for a hedgehog!

When I was a kid my Nan had a hedgehog that came into her garden every evening. She called it Willie. Now, it was probably a different hedgehog every year in her large garden, but I like to think it was the same one that stayed with Nan!

They do remember where food is! Probably multiple hedgehogs but I bet the original hedgehog was amongst the visitors!

I’ve heard from the lady who took him in..he’s livened up so much it was decided it was in his best interests to be released back into the wild. He’s tick and flea free, he’s eaten well and he knows where he can go for food so I’m sure he’ll be fine! Love a happy ending.
