Is this fair?

School sports team, mixed, Y5 & Y6. Tryouts last month.

Team finally picked. As less boys tried out, they all automatically made the team (which is made up of 50/50 boys and girls)

Can't work out if this is fair or not?

Ratio of girls to boys who tried out was more like 80:20.

(No rules for competing as to how many boys / girls can be on the team)

No, it should be on skills levels unless anywhere stated it needed to be 50/50

Or to give a different example. 8 boys and 24 girls tried out.

All 8 boys made the team, ability level (seemingly) aside. 8 girls were picked on ability.

Should this have been done more representatively?

At least two of the boys parents have expressed surprise at making the team as they already do the sport but at a much lower level than some if the girls who didn't make the team?

So essentially it's unspoken that the boys made it through as they are boys.
