Copper iud problems

I need advice. I got my copper iud 5 weeks ago. Got my first period 2 days after iud insertion. Everything went fine. But now I keep getting intense cramps sometimes followed by bleeding and then stops. It's been happening for a week now. I can still feel the threads. I called for an appointment to get it checked but nothing available earlier so they have booked me for the last week of October. Is random bleeding and cramps normal with a copper iud? Please help...

It can take a while for it to settle in - it's an intrusive object in your uterus - and periods can be heavier for a while too. I've had a copper coil continuously for 26 years now (not the same one, I hasten to add!) and it's been absolutely fine throughout, so no issues at all barring the early settling-in phase.

Some women find it just doesn't agree with them at all, though. The only way to know which you'll be is to wait it out and see. I hope it eases soon!

@HappyDane Thanks for the reply. Hope it settles down because I cannot risk getting it removed 😟. Sometimes I get scared reading all the stories on Reddit that say organ perforation and things like that...

I've had mine in 4 years now since I turned 40, wish I'd had it sooner! Did have some problems with bleeding and cramps for the 1st few months but it soon settled. And I was worried about me/my partner feeling the strings so I got them to trim the strings as short as possible. I've never felt them...
My libido returning with a bang has been by far the biggest plus to having a non-hormonal contraception 😁 Do have heavier periods but still regular.
