My 4 year battle with my local council is finally over.

They are the most obstructive people I have ever dealt with. In the big scheme of things it is small, a leak in a roof, of a building I rent from them. Well was a small leak, not now of course. 4 years of correspondence, involvement of local councillors, and the Ombudsman who all found in our favour. Now I have written to our MP, who I am sure has better things to do, and it is done.

Local government is the most inefficient, wasteful, hopeless set-up. I've lived in lots of different areas of England and have also done a bit of specialist consultancy work for several local-government quangos. I have never seen such a useless lazy talentless self-serving workforce as I have seen in local government. It's mind boggling.

It is the absolute indifference with our concerns that get me.
‘unable to find your emails as they have been archived’ is just one of many excuses.

If they’ve been archived, they’re easy to locate. What a rubbish excuse!

None of them give a shit about anything except their benefits and public-sector pension.

That's your experience.

I have worked across both private and public sector my whole career and most of the most skilled and dedicated professionals I met were working in the public sector.

The private sector is inherently self serving of course

Please name the council, so anyone who has to deal with them is warned.

Flossiecotton · 16/10/2024 16:41

I won’t name them it would not be fair. There are individuals who are trying to do a good job.

Clearly you've not worked with the so-called "third sector".

Few things beat a registered charity for inefficient, self-serving incompetence.

And as for office politics and internal feuding ....

Again, generalisations like this just reflect badly on the person writing them.
I've come across plenty of hard working, skilled and committed people in the third sector too.

And plenty of underqualified and egotistical people in the private sector

Simply because it is a generalisation, does not mean it is not true.
