Parents of primary-aged DC, how would you rank yourself in the following areas

If you have young DC, how do you feel like you are doing in each of the following areas of life? 100% is completely nailing it, 0 is failing abysmally.

I will start -

Relationships with partner - 50 (need more one on one time together)

Relationship with DC - 80 (generally good but often feel torn between working / spending time with DC after school)

Work - 50 (I’m doing what I need to to get by)

Wider family / Friendships - 80 (made some decent friends recently after a really bad patch so feeling positive)

Heslth & fitness 50 (could be better, but I do do a bit so could be much worse! Need to lose 1 stone)

Life admin / household / finances - 80 (pretty on top of this but some things have been outstanding far too long)

It'll be 0 for everything. Work full time, crap at everything.

50 for relationship. Really trying to make time
80 I do make sure I spend time with them and do all the things we need to do. Could have more fun/outings/activities at the weekend if I was more organised
25 I see my parents but that’s about it.
80. I have a physical job and I’m the healthiest I’ve been for a few years ATM
40ish. Need to do better. Slowly improving but only slowly

I have 2 primary aged children (9 and 6) plus 3 older ones

Relationship with partner - 95 (we are closer than ever and I feel our children have helped this massively for us actually)

Relationships with DC - 80 (specifically with primary aged, I have an amazing relationship with my 6 year old but I struggle with my 9 year old because of her anxiety and general issues and it can be difficult and I often feel guilty that I am not giving her the time she needs because of the fact I have other commitments)

Work - 70 (not much opinions, I work from home mainly and it's okay I guess. DH is the bigger source of income)

Wider family/relationships - 75 (Close with my parents, siblings and their children and it is lovely. I have solid friendships as well. We have a lot of issues with my mother in law and DH's side of the family though)

Health and fitness - 80 (Really good. Probably could eat healthier but I feel amazing and am a healthy weight and work out a reasonable amount)

Life admin/household/finances - 90 (On top of this most of the time)

Gymmum82 · 15/10/2024 21:48

Relationships with partner - 10-really poor, terrible communication. Minimal effort from both sides. Unsure how to improve

Relationship with DC - 70 not bad but often feel like I’m preoccupied with other stuff and not fully engaged with them

Work - 60 better than average but could be better

Wider family / Friendships - 90 have amazing friends and I’m incredibly lucky and grateful for them

Heslth & fitness 95 this is absolutely nailed. I’m fit and healthy.

Life admin / household / finances - 40 the house is a bit of a state. Never seem to find time to declutter

Relationships with partner - 95. Generally very happy, good sex life, enjoy hanging out together.

Relationship with DC - 80. My oldest is very emotional and has some difficulties at school, possibly ADHD. We’re very close but sometimes I worry I spend too much time telling her “don’t do this, don’t do that”.

Work - 80. Just started a new training role, I really like it! Sometimes find juggling work + home tricky, I’ve not long been back off maternity leave, but it’s more logistics than problems with the actual content of work.

Wider family / Friendships - 85. I’m going away with my two closest friends this weekend! Live near my family. Hoping to make friends at new job, my team are really nice.

Heslth & fitness 30. Literally eating a dominos as I type this

Life admin / household / finances - 50. I’m on top of life admin. My house is cleanish but not that tidy day to day and it’s quite scruffy- bought a couple of years ago and can’t afford to do anything to it so have painted over flocked wallpaper, still have artex ceilings, lino in the kitchen is peeling etc. We also have no savings currently following getting married, buying a house, having our second child and my husband having a period of unemployment all in the past 5 years.

Interesting and impressive that all of the replies so far give quite high scores to wider family and friendships. That's the part I've really neglected, especially since COVID.

Breadbasket5 · 16/10/2024 16:29

@hopsalong it was during Covid I realised my friendship situation was dire. When they relaxed rules so you could meet one friend for a walk etc, I realised I had no one to meet. I have made a determined effort over the last 4 years to find my tribe.

My wider family relationships aren’t perfect, i still think DH’s sisters dislike me - but I now have enough good friends to care less about who doesn’t like me.

Relationships with partner - 80 (we are pretty solid and a good team but are often too knackered to do much in the evening other than sit and watch TV together. No babysitting options either really so date nights are very rare. But other than that I think we're all good!)

Relationship with DC - 80 (good but they get too much screen time really, especially in the evenings when we're all tired. I need to read to them and play games more)

Work - 60 (I'm not very motivated at work and feel like I don't give it my best. But I always get good reviews from my manager so I keep plodding on as long as I'm doing what needs to be done and nobody is shouting at me 🤣)

Wider family / Friendships - 60 (I go out with friends about once a month which is plenty for me to get some social time in. I live too far from my family to see them very often which makes me sad but relocation isn't an option at the moment)

Health & fitness - 30 (Intermittent fasting has been a huge positive change for me. I've lost a stone but need to lose another 3 stone. I'm heading slowly in the right direction but should do more exercise.)

Life admin / household / finances - 90 (I am shit hot at managing general life admin and finances BUT the cleaning could be better. I want to get a cleaner again tbh as I loved having one!)
