Vinted - seller used bad packaging

I am not sure what to do. I bought a book off Vinted for £4. The seller sent it in a parcel bag with no sufficient packaging and it has arrived bent and ripped on pages. I used the report issue feature on Vinted about damaged in transit and packaging issues. I sent photos and they will investigate and let me know.

In the meantime the seller has asked me to send it back and won’t pay the return postage costs. This has happened before where sellers don’t think to use sufficient packaging. In future is it best to message sellers beforehand and ask politely ask them to use sufficient packaging? Thanks.

I'm in exactly this position today. Brand new book poorly packaged has arrived somewhat battered and no longer suitable to give as a present to my daughter. I'm having a polite (ish) to and fro with the seller but they refuse to take responsibility, and want me to return it at my expense, as they are 'willing to take it back despite the damage' !! I'm a little lost for words.

You'll get nowhere with vinted. Damaged goods are just unfortunate part of shopping somewhere like that (rather than paying full prove somewhere else). Their buyer protection is total bollocks.

Problem with Vinted is that there is no allowance for packaging just the postage cost so some sellers use whatever they have to hand. I've had some hilariously bad deliveries.
Nothing wrong with asking about suitable protection beforehand.

I had this last week. After sending a whole load of photos vinted ruled in my favour and I got a full refund and did not have to return it.

Buyer had initially tried to give me £5 refund (over £20 paid including postage) for a broken item. So I said no. They then expected me to return it at £5 postage.

Just let vinted sort it.

I ordered a Lego set off Amazon and it arrived without any packaging at all - just a label slapped on the box. It was a bit battered to be sure and luckily I intercepted it before my son saw it.
So it's not just Vinted. Though you complaining may make the seller do a better job next time.
