I’ve just had my stairs done with paint @ a runner

Oh that looks so nice

Is it a pain to clean though?

We have runner & paint on the first flight and then full carpet on the rest (3 storey house)

The runner & paint looks smart but it is higher maintenance, the painted area shows the dust so needs plenty of cleaning especially if white or dark paint. If you want rods that’s extra cost. Plus we have found that flatweave runners are less hard wearing than normal twist or loop pile carpet so bear that in mind. Of course you can make a “runner” out of a normal carpet with a bound edge.

Having said all that we are recarpeting the stairs soon and going for runner again to the 1st floor despite all the down sides! As we like the look.

We went for paint and runner as well, as we prefer the look.
I would advise a pot of touch up paint in a cupboard somewhere.

I personally don't like the look of runners, I'd go with full carpet.

I like the look of runners but when I was a kid it was my job to sweep the painted bits, it was a right pain 😅So I will always go for carpet, I think striped ones look particularly good.

I like the runner and stair rods.

StripeyDeckchair · 15/10/2024 12:31

Full carpet - too much of a faff to clean otherwise

I have a stripe carpet on my stairs & it looks very smart

I would like paint with a runner, but new staircarpet had been put down just before we moved in (12 years ago!) and it is still fine so we're not changing it (yet).
