Are you getting the flu jab this year?

Every year I wonder the same thing, do I get it or not! Most years I feel ropey for a few days after and that’s what puts me off. If everyone has had it yet this year how have you felt after? I’m early 40s if that’s important!

Yes Had it the first day it launched

Flidina · 14/10/2024 18:31

Had mind last week, fine apart from a sore arm for a few days.

I always get it. I have no clinical need beyond really not wanting flu, it’s evil. I began having it a few years ago to protect a family member, then I had babies and had it again, and now I just get it because it’s a sore arm for a day or two and then I’m unlikely to get flu. Win.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 14/10/2024 20:27

Already had it, along with the covid jab at the same time. Covid arm ached for a few days and was sore to touch. Flu arm aches slightly on the day but after that it was fine. The covid jab did hurt more though. I could barely feel her stab me with the flu jab

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 14/10/2024 20:28

Forgot to add. The pharmacist recommended taking a couple of paracetamols before I went to bed that night which I did

abracadabra1980 · 14/10/2024 20:31

Yes probably. Can't afford to be off work as self employed.

Nasyan · 14/10/2024 20:36

No, never had it

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/10/2024 20:38

I keep trying.
I've booked it twice, both times the pharmacy didn't have a pharmacist in who was qualified to do jabs.

I am booked elsewhere next week.

AndyPandyismyhero · 14/10/2024 21:17

Dh and I had both at the weekend. Apart from a very mild ache around the COVID jab site, I've had no reaction at all. DH has very achy arms at both jab sites. I've only ever had flu once, when I was about 18. I never want it again, so I'm prepared to put up with a few days feeling under the weather if necessary, though I've always been lucky so far.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 14/10/2024 21:20

Paying to get mine because I have a small baby to look after and my 3 year old has just recovered from flu last week and omg she was so bloody sick that she ended up in hospital as I couldn’t get her temperature down 😑 il never not get the vaccine for us all as a family agsin!

Pumpkittenspice · 14/10/2024 21:45

Yes, I had mine last week through my GP.

I’m 28, but severely asthmatic. The flu hits me quite hard, unfortunately. I also suffer with bouts of sinusitis, which I hate more than the flu!

I had a sore arm the next day, but was fine otherwise 😊

POTC · 14/10/2024 21:48

Yes, early 40s here too
Had it on a Monday lunchtime, Tuesday afternoon developed a headache, took flu plus meds once on Wednesday morning and was fine from then on

Pumpkittenspice · 14/10/2024 21:55

I wasn’t offered a Covid booster though, I wonder why?

I’d accept it, if it was offered

Topseyt123 · 14/10/2024 21:58

I had my annual flu and covid vaccines about ten days ago. One in each arm.

I had a sore arm at the site of the covid one for a few days but otherwise no further reaction at all.

The criteria for Covid vaccines are much stricter. You need to have had two courses of prednisolone within a certain time period. I think you only need to be on a preventer inhaler for the flu jab.

Having said that, I was eligible last year and the computer didn’t flag it up I only got it because I knew what the criteria were.

Ohhh. I’ve never even heard of prednisolone. Thanks!

Fifthtimelucky · 15/10/2024 13:17

I won't. I had it for the first time during Covid, because we were all being encouraged to do so, but I'd never felt the need for one previously. I've only ever had flu once (nearly 50 years ago) so think I have a pretty good natural immunity.

I won't be having Covid either. I don't qualify for free jabs. My husband does and has had both.

I had flu and Covid jabs. I felt a bit sore and itchy afterwards, but it didn’t last long.

Augustus40 · 21/10/2024 15:40

I don't take any of these.

Had flu only twice in my life and rarely get a cold. Plus never knowingly had covid. I did take the main covid vaccines in the pandemic plus boosters but not any longer.
