Are you getting the flu jab this year?

Every year I wonder the same thing, do I get it or not! Most years I feel ropey for a few days after and that’s what puts me off. If everyone has had it yet this year how have you felt after? I’m early 40s if that’s important!

Yes. Done. Covid too.

Tel12 · 14/10/2024 14:28

Have had the flu vaccine and that's it. No COVID

muddyford · 14/10/2024 14:29

Had it last week. 62. No Covid despite caring for clinically vulnerable DH.

Nope. Never had the flu jab and I don't think I've ever had the flu either.

Rowena191 · 14/10/2024 14:32

I had the flu and COVID jabs on Saturday. On Sunday I felt hot, had a headache, sore arms and sore leg muscles. I feel better today. It's worth 24 hours feeling off, to know I'm now protected over the winter.

Sayithowiseeit · 14/10/2024 14:37

No I'm not planning to either

Thischangeseverything · 14/10/2024 14:38

No. I had it three years in a row and was bedridden for a week afterwards all three times. Once I could believe was coincidence, but after the third time I decided it just doesn't agree with me. Haven't been ill like that since.

Sweetsusie · 14/10/2024 14:40

Had flu and covid jabs 11 days ago. Tender upper arms are worth the protection imo.
@Ellerby83 At 43 I was recommended to have yearly flu jabs and felt the same as you. Speedy arrival and departure helped me overcome the discomfort and embarrassment and a “bugger it, I’m doing it” attitude.

ifonly4 · 14/10/2024 14:43

I guess it's working out the lesser of the evils for you, ie feeling a bit off for a few days or having full blown flu that knocks you for six for a week. I'm eligible for a free flu and covid jab, just going to look it when I know I've got a few quieter days coming up.

I did read that the flu season this year is predicated to be more severe.

Dromaeosauridae · 14/10/2024 14:48

Had mine last week, and the Covid jab. Felt fine, still got a little bruise.

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/10/2024 14:52

Haven’t had them yet this year but usually get flu and Covid jabs. Wouldn’t expect them to be any different from other years with sore arm and maybe feeling a bit ‘off’ for a couple of days. Which is probably much better than the alternative if you don’t get them and get sick.

blackheartsgirl · 14/10/2024 14:55

I’ve had it and the covid jab already. I felt ok after, just sore arms and felt tired for a day or two after.

FictionalCharacter · 14/10/2024 14:56

Yes. The feeling ropey is tolerable IMO, but flu is horrendous. I’ve only had flu a few times but been really ill.

afaloren · 14/10/2024 14:57

Yes I’m booking (paid for) for DH and I. DH has never had flu but I have and I genuinely thought I might die! Always get the jab now.

GameOfJones · 14/10/2024 15:02

I'm 36 and had mine at Tesco pharmacy last week (paid privately as I don't get it free through work.) I get the flu jab religiously every year after having flu twice before (once when I was 16 and another time when I was at University.) I would do just about anything to never have flu again as it was absolutely awful. I felt like I was dying and remember having to crawl to the bathroom as I couldn't walk. I didn't eat anything for a week.

I never want flu again if I can help it so I'm happy to pay for a jab and feel a little bit grotty for a couple of days. I actually felt fine really, a slightly sore arm and I had to take a couple of ibuprofen the day after but other than that no side effects.

Tesco pharmacy were great. Easy to book online, it took about 3 minutes in total including paying for the jab, answering some questions and getting it done and then I did my food shop afterwards.

Disasterclass · 14/10/2024 15:37

I had mine last week. No side effects at all. Last year I felt a bit ropey afterwards, but this time I forgot I'd even had it

Muchtoomuchtodo · 14/10/2024 15:43

Yea, I had the flu and covid jabs last week. My flu arm was a bit more sore than my covid arm, other than that I felt fine

NagathaCrispy · 14/10/2024 15:49

Booked in for next week. Never had an issue and will continue to have both flu and covid if offered.

HappilyContentTheseDays · 14/10/2024 15:56

Yes, I had flu and COVID at the same time. Slightly sore arms but nothing serious and not the usual 'fluey' side effects afterwards. I did ask for a jab in each arm, I think that helped with reducing any bruising. Very happy to be offered vaccinations as I get them free and I feel protected for the winter.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/10/2024 15:58

I got it 9 days ago and felt like shit off it for most of the week.

Radiolala · 14/10/2024 15:59

I always have both and plan to this year.
I was once really poorly with flu so will do anything that may help me to either avoid it or not get as poorly.

MissEsmeWatson · 14/10/2024 16:03

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/10/2024 13:11

Yes! Paying for it this year after randomly being invited for one last year by the GP. I had flu in the spring and wanted to die.

Sorry, did you get flu after having the jab, or had you refused it?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/10/2024 16:10

Got them done on the 3rd (think it was the first day).

I can't recommend ever getting flu or covid.

NeedWineNow · 14/10/2024 16:54

Getting mine done in Boots the week after next. Not eligible for a free one so paying privately. DH had flu and COVID ones at our surgery last week (he’s 72). He’d had a cold the week before which had eased off but seemed to come back once he’d had the jab. He felt a bit crap for a few days but is fine now.

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/10/2024 17:08

Yes I already had it. Feeling ropey for 2 days is worthit to reduce your chances of feeling terrible for 2 weeks and possibly feeling ropey for several weeks after that.
